Plot Synopsis

In each half-hour episode of WE BOUGHT THE FARM, a real estate agent shows a home buyer four farmhouses, each with its own unique offerings, and the prospective buyer chooses one perfect home at the end of the program. From hundreds of sprawling acres to classic, quaint country living, this series follows along as couples and families look for the perfect homestead while discovering some of the most affordable and beautiful locations. WE BOUGHT THE FARM premiered on Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 11pm-Midnight, as HGTV debuted back-to-back new episodes. In the series opener (11pm), "Canning for the Future," Rob and Stephanie love the outdoors, and they are ready to move to the Berkshires of Massachusetts, a picturesque natural highland, in search of a quieter and simpler life for their two daughters. Rob wants a few acres to grow vegetables and Stephanie wants a beautiful kitchen to can food for the winter. After their real estate agent, Annie, shows them four lovely farmhouses, they happily decide on their perfect home. Then, in the night's second episode (11:30pm), "Two of Every Animal," Jeff and Susan are tired of their busy claustrophobic life in New York and are ready for a serene country life in northwest New Jersey. After 20 years working on Wall Street, Jeff dreams of big flat acres to grow vegetables and Susan wants to raise every farm animal imaginable. After their real estate agent John shows them four beautiful farmhouses, they happily decide on their perfect country home.

HGTV premiered the second season of WE BOUGHT THE FARM on Saturday, May 27, 2017 from 11pm-Midnight ET/PT, showing back-to-back new episodes. In the season opener (11pm), "Barn or Bust!," a Boston couple wants to move their family out of the suburbs and connect with nature in a farmhouse on sizable acreage. The search starts in Massachusetts' Hampden County, but while Chris has his heart set on a farm with a classic New England barn, Sue wants a water feature and a place where their daughter can raise goats. Will they find the farmhouse of their dreams or will a barn break their budget? Then, in the night's second new episode (10:30pm), "Everything's Coming Up Lavender," a couple and their two boys are leaving Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to live a more fulfilling life on a farm and start a lavender growing business. They set their sights on the rolling plains of Hershey, Pennsylvania, but is it possible to find a farm to support their growing needs along with a house that the family can agree on?
