Plot Synopsis

Host Alfonso Ribeiro goes behind the scenes to explore where America's favorite and classic treats come from, while revealing the history, companies and people delivering these famous candies, condiments, and snacks. In one episode, while exploring classic foods that are rolled, Alfonso introduces viewers to a restaurateur and his family that created their own tortilla company in the '70s, after failing to find quality tortillas that they grew up on. Viewers learn how they are created and how this ubiquitous food can be used for a meal at any time of the day. Along this journey on all that is rolled, Alfonso also explores the origins of the delicious chocolate salami, and the pecan log roll, with its origins starting as a roadside snack sold from the trunk of a car, evolving to its current status as an American road-trip classic. And the discussion about rolled treats includes the most popular rolls of them all -- the Tootsie Roll -- where 1,600 pieces are created per minute and more than 65 million Tootsie Rolls are shipped each day. UNWRAPPED 2.0 is based on the long-running Food Network series, UNWRAPPED, originally hosted by Marc Summers. Season 2 of UNWRAPPED 2.0 premiered on Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 8-9pm ET/PT, as Food Network premiered back-to-back new episodes. In the season opener (8pm), "Movie Munchies," Alfonso goes behind the scenes of blockbuster sweets like Dots and Cookie Dough Bites. Then, he finds out how to add a punch to your sweet tooth with mouth-puckering Sour Straws and San Diego Pretzels' salty Jumbo Soft Pretzel. In the night's second episode (8:30pm), "Crunchy," Alfonso explores snacks that know how to put that little crunch in your munch, like See's Candies peanut brittle and Snak King's crispy Taco Litos. Then, he learns about Peking Noodles' aptly named Crunchy Noodles, and how Primrose Candy Company has perfected the mix of crunch and chew in their Strawberry Bon-Bons. Later in Season 2, Alfonso also dives into barbecue sides, addictive treats, infused flavors, and nostalgic treats. On Monday, December 7, 2015 at 8pm ET/PT, Food Network premiered "Festive Foods," a one-hour holiday special of UNWRAPPED 2.0. Alfonso is ringing in the holidays with a feast of festive foods! Find out how Ocean Spray's jellied cranberry sauce gets that famous wiggle and how Wick's pumpkin pie is so creamy. Then, discover how Dr. Praeger's potato latkes fry up just right and how they get the snap in Willa's Shortbread gingersnaps. Get inside information on stocking stuffers like Spangler Candy Company's colorful candy canes and Melville Candy's jolly Christmas tree lollipops, and see why you'll want to fill your holiday gift baskets with Long Grove's beautiful harvest bar and Valerie Confections' fruit cakes and peppermint bark. Finally, toast to the New Year with CH Distillery's smooth Chestnut Liqueur. Midway through the second season, UNWRAPPED 2.0 moved from Food Network back to its original cable channel, Cooking Channel. Season 3 of UNWRAPPED 2.0 premiered on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at 9pm ET/6pm PT on Cooking Channel. In the season opener, "Backyard Cookout," Alfonso Ribeiro reveals the secrets behind heat-and-eat barbecue from Farm Rich Smokehouse, the super yellow color of French's Mustard and the sweet-sour punch of Mt. Olive Bread and Butter Pickles. Plus, Christie Cookie Co.'s serious Chocolate Brownies are packed with three types of luscious chocolate and a surprising ingredient. Don't miss all the fun throughout the season, with such classic American treats, including Charms Blow Pops, Chewy Granola Bars, Green Mountain Coffee, Pez Candy and more!
On Sunday, January 8, 2017 at 9pm ET/6pm PT, Cooking Channel premiered the Season 3 finale of UNWRAPPED 2.0. In the season ender, "Simple Goodness," Alfonso is covering all things easy from snacks that evoke childhood memories like iconic Hostess Twinkies and the colorful Jel Sert Otter Pops to easy dinner solutions like Bertolli's Chicken Parmigiana and Penne. He's also getting a closer look at how the minimal ingredients in Manischewitz Matzo are kept kosher.
