Plot Synopsis

Executive Produced by Stephen Colbert, TOONING OUT THE NEWS is an animated series that provides short daily segments leading up to a weekly full episodes. A cast of animated characters, led by anchor James Smartwood, parody top news stories and interview real-world guests, newsmakers and analysts.

Season 2 of TOONING OUT THE NEWS premiered on Thursday, March 4, 2021 on Paramount+, the same day the streaming service launched. The half-hour season opener features Gov. Andrew Cuomo's sexual harassment allegations, Biden's response to the MBS-Khashoggi report, and Trump's CPAC splash.
Moving to cable for its 13-episode new season, Comedy Central premiered Season 3 of TOONING OUT THE NEWS on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 11:30pm ET/PT, following THE DAILY SHOW WITH TREVOR NOAH. Debuting weekly, episodes include segments -- "Big News," "Virtue Signal," "Hot Take" and "Inside The Hill" -- that focus on the week's most dominating stories and include special guests as well as returning and all-new animated characters. Live-action guest contributors, political analysts, newsmakers, media figures, and celebrities discuss issues with the show's animated anchors, from politics to Hollywood to sports. The show will also air special event programming coverage of the 2022 midterm elections and "A Very Special Pre-Recorded 2022 Year in Review."
