Plot Synopsis

Produced by Barry Gordon and series star Mario van Peebles, who also wrote and directed some episodes, SUPERSTITION is a one-hour supernatural drama that revolves around the Hastings family, who have owned the only funeral home and graveyard in La Rochelle, Georgia, for as long as anyone can recall. In addition to providing services for all faiths, the family specialty is handling "afterlife care" for the unexplained deaths of folks at the hands of demonic Infernals, and other unworldly phenomena that have long haunted the town. Over the years, the Hastings have developed a skill set in the dark arts to help combat this regular "Infernal problem" of La Rochelle. The family uses arcane weaponry, brute strength, mystical alchemy skills, and a deep knowledge of the occult and ancient lore from around the world to quell the evil within the shadows of the town. The series opens with Calvin Hastings returning home to reconnect with his family, but the reunion is cut short by a string of killings instigated by a supernatural villain only Calvin and his family can take down. Calvin left home at 18 and spent 16 years in the U.S. Marine Corp. Now, after numerous tours of duty and years estranged from his family, Calvin claims he now is seeing visions, and needs to return to La Rochelle to "fight the fight at home." His father, Isaac, is the handsome, wise and physically strong family patriarch. With his warrior heart and arcane knowledge, Isaac and his family may be the last line of defense to save mankind. Isaac's beautiful, whip-smart wife, Bea, is an active and willing practitioner in all aspects of the Hastings family business. She provides unconditional love to her family, but she can still whip up a dark spell as bad-ass as her biscuits. The Hastings are joined by: Garvey, a modern, woke young woman clearly in charge of her own essence and energy, who was raised without her father and considers the Hastings her true family; and Tilly, who brings the biological know-how, all while being exceedingly loyal to the Hastings family -- and helping them fight the arcane without some good, old-fashioned forensic science.
