Plot Synopsis

This reality series gives budding entrepreneurs a chance to make their dreams come true and become successful -- and possibly wealthy -- business people. But the entrepreneurs must first try to convince five tough, multi-millionaire tycoons to part with their own hard-earned cash and give them the funding they need to jumpstart their ideas. The tycoons try to negotiate a deal with the entrepreneurs until all five of them say "I'm out." For the first two seasons, the business sharks were: real-estate mogul Barbara Corcoran; infomercial industry pioneer Kevin Harrington; technology innovator Robert Herjavec; fashion icon Daymond John; financial expert Kevin O'Leary. In season 2, Mark Cuban and Jeff Foxworthy joined the show as guest Shark investors, with Cuban replacing Harrington as a regular investor in Season 3. Plus, retail-product inventor Lori Greiner, "The Queen of QVC," joined the program in Season 3 as a guest shark investor and in Season 4 she joined the series as a regular investor. During the third season, the Sharks offered over $6.2 million of their own money in investment deals to bankroll a creative array of innovative entrepreneurs, after investing $5 million (Season 1) and $4 million (Season 2) in previous seasons. When SHARK TANK returns for its fifth season in Fall 2013, two guest tycoon businessmen and philanthropists will dive into the tank alongside the Sharks: Steve Tisch, Chairman and Executive Vice President of the New York Giants and partner at Escape Artists Productions; and John Paul DeJoria, best known as a co-founder of the Paul Mitchell line of hair products and The Patron Spirits Company. SHARK TANK returned for its sixth season on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 8pm ET/PT with a two-hour season premiere, and then moved to its regular timeslot at 9pm ET/PT one week later on Friday, October 3. SHARK TANK returned for its seventh season on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, with Mark Cuban, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, Kevin O'Leary and guest shark Ashton Kutcher appearing in this episode. Season 8 of SHARK TANK premiered on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on ABC, with all six Sharks circling the Tank for the first time ever. The Sharks in this episode are Mark Cuban, Kevin O'Leary, Daymond John, Lori Greiner, Barbara Corcoran and Robert Herjavec. Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown stops by the Tank to tout the benefits of personalized shoe slides developed by an entrepreneur from Norwood, Massachusetts; a wise-beyond-her-years 16-year-old high school junior from Naperville, Illinois, impresses the Sharks with an app that can stop cyberbullying messages before the damage can be done; two men from Howell, New Jersey, designed an ingenious at-home beer dispenser that uses sound waves that makes bottled and canned beer taste just like draft; with inspiration from her terminally ill mother, a woman from West Valley City, Utah, realized that sending heartwarming chicken soup was the perfect gift and a needed business. Also, an update on Shaan Patel from Las Vegas, Nevada, and his SAT prep course, 2400 Expert, in which Mark Cuban invested in during Season 7. ABC premiered the ninth season of SHARK TANK on Sunday, October 1, 2017 from 8-10pm ET/PT. The two-hour season premiere is on a new night, Sunday, and the new season's episodes air in their regular time period beginning Sunday, October 8 at 9pm. Int the season opener (8pm), Adventurer, entrepreneur and philanthropist Sir Richard Branson is featured in a profile highlighting how he made a career out of breaking tradition. Founder of the Virgin Group, Sir Richard has created more than 400 companies spanning travel, financial services, telecom, health & wellness, and more recently, space travel. Then, the night's second episode (9pm) features a profile on serial investor Rohan Oza, dubbed "Hollywood's Brandfather" by the Hollywood Reporter and the mastermind behind some of the most iconic brands in the consumer space today. Born and raised in Zambia and of Indian descent, the profile highlights his humble but proud road to entrepreneurial success. Season 9 brings several other exciting new guest Sharks into the Tank. The guest Sharks, who are icons and trailblazers in their respective business fields, will appear individually alongside four other Sharks in various episodes during the 2017-2018 season. Besides Richard Branson and Rohan Oza, the other guest Sharks are (alphabetically): Sara Blakely, the founder and sole owner of Spanx; Bethenny Frankel, the self-made businesswoman and founder of Skinnygirl, who is the star of THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NEW YORK CITY; and Alex Rodriguez, one of Major League Baseball's greatest players, who is CEO of AROD Corp.
