Plot Synopsis

In this reality series, chef Ching-He Huang travels across America to help owners of struggling Asian restaurants revitalize their eateries. From updating dated menus to renovating an establishment's decor, Ching uses her Asian heritage and culinary expertise to save restaurant owners from financial ruin. In each 30-minute episode, Ching transforms a different eatery, including: King Yum (Fresh Meadows, NY), a Tiki-themed Chinese restaurant, which has been in Robin Ng's family for over 60 years, and who must be convinced that the over-fried, greasy, bland dishes must go; New Mandarin Garden (Farmington Hills, MI), where she must convince two bickering brothers, Gary and Jerry Che, that they must revamp their outdated Chinese restaurant and bring it into the 21st century; Shogun Palace (Flushing, Queens, NY), where she transforms owner David Wong and Chef William Chen's over-the-top banquet-style menu to modern Japanese, while saying farewell to the fishy decor in the dining room; and many more Asian restaurants throughout America. RESTAURANT REDEMPTION returned for its 13-episode second season on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 10pm ET/7pm PT on Cooking Channel. In the season opener, Ching heads to the traditionally Italian neighborhood of South Philly to help Joe and Renae DeCristo, siblings who are the owner and manager of JC Chinese restaurant, a business opened by their pioneering late father Silvio in the 1950s. In subsequent episodes of Season 2, Ching helps owners of these eateries: Pho Barclay (Cherry Hill, NJ); Chal Chilli (New York City's Murray Hill); Joey Thai (Montclair, NJ); and many more restaurants that need makeovers.

On Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 10pm ET/7pm PT, Cooking Channel premiered the Season 2 finale of RESTAURANT REDEMPTION. In the season ender, Ching heads to iconic Rockaway Beach in New York to help a waterfront restaurant that's already survived despite the odds. Two years ago, ex-Wall Street worker Robert and his Thai wife Metta's beachfront restaurant Thai Rock was decimated by Hurricane Sandy. The clean up operation left them with debts totaling $1.5 million. Before Sandy hit, Robert had sunk everything he owned into Thai Rock. He's invested his life savings -- not once but twice, into fixing up this restaurant. Two years on and the surrounding neighborhood hasn't fully recovered from the devastation.
