Plot Synopsis

Carla, a psychologist with her own practice, and Alex, an English professor, work hard to juggle their careers, love life and co-workers while raising their three children -- fraternal twins from Carla's previous marriage and their baby girl. Dr. Carla Reed is a highly successful psychologist who works hard to balance her family and career. She grew up in a solid, middle class family that valued stability and education, but her perfect world fell apart while she was in college at Howard University; it was then that she found out her father had a secret family. It was at Howard that Carla met her ex-husband, Marcus Reynolds, with whom she had fraternal twins, Keenan and Kaci. Years later at a mutual friend's wedding, Carla and Alex reconnected after being only casual acquaintances at Howard. They began dating shortly thereafter and were married a year later, when her twins were five years old. Alex is an English professor specializing in twentieth-century American literature, and is a neat freak who loves sports, cooking and fine wines. Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, he was the first of his blue-collar family to go to college, which is an accomplishment he doesn't take for granted. He recently chose to leave the classroom to work from home as an online professor and home-school their daughter Alexis, so that Carla can focus on expanding her psychology practice. He loves Carla with all of his heart, and he has accepted her twins Keenan and Kaci from a previous marriage as his own. Kaci is a boy-crazy, fashion forward, typical teenage girl who loves talking with her friends, and she's also an excellent natural athlete who participates in a number of school activities. While Kaci is super-sensitive, emotional and overly dramatic, she's also intensely interested in environmental causes, making sure her parents keep their home "green" and frequently being outraged by her family's increasing carbon footprint. Keenan is a smart kid who doesn't work to his full potential, although he has his own naturally cool swagger. He would rather coast on his good looks and charm, a habit his parents are trying to get him to break. He is Kaci's fraternal twin and older by two minutes, a fact that he loves to rub in her face. Like most teenage boys, Keenan likes girls, videogames, music and hanging out with his friends, but most of all, he likes to push Kaci's buttons and tease Alexis, simply because he can. Alexis is 7-years-old and cute as a button, and, just like both of her parents, she is smart, analytical and inquisitive. If things don't add up, she questions them. Alexis is definitely not the kind of child who will accept "because I said so" as an answer. Sometimes the fact that Alexis is not a twin and is Alex's only biological child makes her feel like she doesn't belong, but she knows there's nothing she can do about it and accepts it for what it is. Being the only child that is home-schooled, however, is something she wants to change. At the office, Carla deals with two zany co-workers: Gabriella Jimenez, Carla's childhood best friend and office suitemate and her very witty and opinionated receptionist Helen Wilson (aka Ms. Helen).

Season 2, which was filmed late 2012, had its much-delayed world premiere on Centric on Friday, September 18, 2015 from 9-10pm ET/PT, almost two years after BET announced that it cancelled the series without ever showing the already completed second season. Season 2 picks up with Carla and Alex separated, as she takes a dream job in Los Angeles while he stays back with the kids in Atlanta, because he doesn't feel the move is right for them. With the demands of a full-time career while being a single dad, Alex leans on his father, Monroe, and two old friends -- Julius Darren, who got a call from Carla to help out her ex, and perennially single doctor Simone Winters -- to help him deal with his troubled marriage and raising the couple's three children.
