Plot Synopsis

Each year on Thanksgiving Day since 2002, NBC has broadcast the NATIONAL DOG SHOW, which is a dog show sponsored by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia held earlier in November. As one of only five remaining "benched" dog shows, all of the competing breeds are on display all day for the visiting public.
Actor John O'Hurley and expert analyst David Frei return to host the 17th Annual NATIONAL DOG SHOW, televised by NBC on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 22, 2018) from Noon-2pm in all time zones. The 2018 event, with Mary Carillo reporting again from the benching area and inside the show ring, showcases some 2,000 purebred canines competing for the title of Best in Show, with $20,000 in prize money at stake. Plus, Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir return to offer a behind-the-scenes look at the show as reporters and digital contributors. Two new American Kennel Club-sanctioned breeds are included in this year's competition -- the Nederlandse Kooikerhondje (sporting group) and the Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen (hound group) -- bringing the total recognized breeds to 192. NBC also aired a primetime encore of this year's event on Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 8-10pm ET/PT. In addition, NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) presents a Thanksgiving Day marathon (beginning 5pm ET/2pm PT) of THE NATIONAL DOG SHOW, featuring all five Best in Show winners from 2013-17.
