Plot Synopsis

Surrounded by quirky co-workers in a small office, hapless OB-GYN Dr. Mindy Lahiri tries to get her life in order, as she navigates both her personal and professional lives in her pursuit of becoming the perfect woman, finding the perfect man, and achieving her perfect romantic-comedy ending. Despite her hectic personal life, Mindy is determined to be more punctual, spend less money, lose weight, and read more books. Plus, at work she shares a practice with a few other doctors: Danny, a hothead and a guys' guy, who has a habit of stealing Mindy's patients -- partly because he admires her work; Jeremy, who not only shares a practice with Mindy but also tries to share her bed; Dr. Shulman, the head of the practice, who is always excited to wax philosophical, especially if his advice gets the younger staff to leave him alone. Mindy also shares tears and laughs with: male nurse Morgan Tookers, a reformed ex-con and the hospital's cheerleader; receptionist Betsy, an easily excitable young woman who is always trying to impress Mindy; receptionist Shauna, a self-assured and hip Jersey girl, who is indifferent to Mindy while carrying a poorly concealed torch for Danny; and college friend Gwen, a lawyer-turned-pilates mom, who happens to be the governor's daughter. When THE MINDY PROJECT returned for its second season, Mindy was in Haiti on a volunteer mission with her boyfriend, Pastor Casey, who had a surprising question for her. While Mindy was in Haiti, Dr. Paul Leotard, played by guest star James Franco in two episodes, temporarily replaced her at Shulman & Associates. A former professional fashion model, Dr. Leotard radically altered his career goals after he accidentally walked off a runway at fashion week and was saved by a pregnant woman. Additional guest stars for Season 2 included Adam Pally, Bill Hader, Kris Humphries, and rock group The National. Picking up with the aftermath of Mindy and Danny's kiss on the airplane, THE MINDY PROJECT returned for its Season 2 Spring premiere with two nights of all-new one-hour events from 9-10pm ET/PT on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 and Tuesday, April 8, 2014. Season 3 of MINDY PROJECT premiered on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 9:30pm ET/PT on FOX. In the season opener, "We're a Couple Now, Haters!," it is the beginning of firsts for Mindy and Danny, as they try to set new relationship boundaries for each other in the office. Meanwhile, things get a little complicated when Jeremy tries to organize a charity event with Peter's girlfriend, Lauren (guest star Tracey Wigfield). Plus, Morgan's cousin, Lou Tookers (guest star Rob McElhenney), pays a visit to the doctor's office. Recurring guest stars for Season 3 include: Niecy Nash as Dr. Jean Fishman, the new chief of Shulman & Associates' admitting hospital, who is Mindy's rival; and Rhea Perlman as Danny's mom, Annette. In the Season 3 finale, "Best Man," Mindy starts to question Danny's commitment to their relationship when he's a no-show for dinner with her parents. Meanwhile, when Morgan thinks he overhears Mindy saying Danny is not the father of her baby, he gathers all the guys with whom she's ever slept, in an attempt to figure out who is the real father. Guest stars include Max Greenfield, B.J. Novak, Anders Holm and Tommy Dewey. THE MINDY PROJECT returned for its fourth season on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 on Hulu. After being canceled by FOX, Hulu announced on May 15, 2015 it picked up THE MINDY PROJECT for a fourth season of 26 episodes, which began production late July 2015. Season 4 opens with "While I Was Sleeping," an alternate-reality episode that features Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing Mindy's perfect husband Matt and with Freida Pinto (playing herself) as a love interest for Danny, who was jetting off to meet Mindy's parents at the end of Season 3. Meanwhile, Danny tries to stop Mindy's parents from marrying her off to an eligible Indian bachelor. After releasing the first episode of Season 4 on September 15, Hulu will continue to release one new episode each Tuesday. On Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Hulu released the premiere of the 16-episode fifth season of THE MINDY PROJECT. In the season opener, "Decision 2016," Jody tries to win Mindy's heart by buying her an apartment, but Mindy is torn between her old love, Danny, and a relationship with Jody. Tamra is suspicious about Mindy's trip to Miami so she and Colette go undercover to figure out what really happened. THE MINDY PROJECT returned for its 10-episode sixth and final season on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT on Hulu. After five seasons, Mindy's bagged herself a husband. Sure, an impulsive elopement wasn't the fairy tale wedding of her dreams, but now it's finally time to see what comes after "I do." But it's hard for Mindy to adjust to married life with Ben when there's so much juicy drama at Shulman and Associates! As Jeremy and Anna navigate the uncertainties of a new relationship, Tamra signs on to be Lahiri Fertility's newest (and top-secret) patient. Will Morgan, Jody, and the rest of the doctors and nurses find their happily ever after? And will Mindy decide that "having it all" is really all she ever wanted? By the second episode, Mindy and Ben's relationship it put to the test when Ben gets an interview for a job in Philadelphia. Guests stars for Season 6 include: Chris Messina, Glenn Howerton, Adam Pally, Julie Bowen, Rhea Perlman, Mark Duplass, Reese Witherspoon, and more.
On Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Hulu released the series finale of THE MINDY PROJECT. In the season ender, "It Had to Be You," Mindy's fertility practice is in danger and Annette's upcoming surgery looms. While Mindy and Danny wait, Mindy attends Morgan and Tamra's wedding, where she and the rest of the Shulman gang try to find their own happy endings.
