Plot Synopsis

EL MARGINAL is a one-hour police procedural series that centers on an ex-cop, Miguel Palacios, sent to infiltrate San Onofre prison while investigating a kidnapping, and he finds himself surrounded by dangerous felons who can't know his real identity. The series opens with jailed ex-policeman Miguel Palacios tasked with infiltrating a Buenos Aires prison to help a judge find out who kidnapped his daughter. Pastor Pena continues to develop his plan to get closer to the Borges brothers. Meanwhile, his own brother brings him unexpected news. Pastor struggles to make contact with Luna. Emma is threatened when she tries to tell the truth about Diosito. Fernando confronts Lunati. Diosito starts to get suspicious of Pastor and his intentions. An inmate's depression worsens. Lunati demands he get his daughter back.

Season 2 of EL MARGINAL had its U.S. premiere on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as Netflix released the entire eight-episode season. This prequel season looks at how Borges and Diosito replaced prison leader El Sapo, at a time when San Onofre was at its most corrupt and violent. Three years before the fire, Borges escapes one prison only to end up in another alongside his brother Diosito. Emma starts her first day of work. A call from the prison demanding ransom for a fake kidnapping ends fatally. A threatened Patricio meets with El Sapo. The warden offers Borges a deal. The guards search for a missing Ontiveros. Borges, Diosito and Patricio try to cover up a crime. El Sapo celebrates his daughter's 15th birthday.

On Friday, September 27, 2019 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Netflix released the eight-episode third season of EL MARGINAL. Set a year before Season 1, the Borges must protect a rich man's son while dealing with forces in and out of the prison that threaten their dominance. In the season opener, Mario cuts two deals: one to look out for a young privileged newbie in exchange for freedom for himself and Diosito, and the other with a vicious narco.

The entire eight-episode fourth season of EL MARGINAL dropped on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 on Netflix. After the fire at San Onofre, the fates of Pastor, Mario Borges and Diosito cross paths again in the Puente Viejo prison. The reunion between Pastor and Diosito re-awakens strong sentiments in both of them. Cesar, who was transferred there, joins this confrontation and leads the group that represents the Sub21. From the outside, Sergio Antin runs things in order to seize the power of the prison, confronting the current director. And Emma Molinari works to aid Pastor in a new and dangerous attempt to escape.

The entire six-episode fifth and final season of EL MARGINAL dropped on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 on Netflix. In the final season, Miguel seeks redemption behind bars, Diosito struggles in the outside world, and a cult threatens to become Puente Viejo's demise. Season 5 opens back in jail, where Miguel resorts to writing about his experiences as a healing mechanism. On the outside, Diosito turns to a life of petty crime to survive.
