Plot Synopsis

Surrounded by women, Mike Baxter fights everyday for his own traditional sense of manhood. As his situations change at home and work, he feels the need to do what must be done to reclaim his manly position in both places. At home, he's the odd man out in a household dominated by his wife Vanessa and their three daughters. After being a stay-at-home mom for years, Vanessa returned to the workplace as a geologist working for an oil company, where she was quickly promoted -- much to the dismay of her primarily male co-workers. Now that Vanessa's work load has increased, Mike is pulled into more hands-on parenting than ever before. Even though he means well, he offers his misguided version of fatherly advice to his three daughters: Kristin, a 23-year-old single mom living at home, who is desperately trying to juggle her work load with parenting her son, Boyd; Mandy, an 18-year-old high-school student, who has taken a romantic interest in Kyle, the former boyfriend of her older sister, Kristin; and Eve, a 14-year-old tomboy. At work, Mike's life is also being turned upside down. In Season 1 his long-time boss and friend, Ed, announces that he's grounding Mike from their catalogue's international photo shoots and putting him in charge of the company's webpage. Mike discovers that the Internet might actually provide him just the outlet he needs, a platform that gives him a voice to appeal to those who agree that manliness is under assault, and a pulpit for his opinions about feeling like the last real man in a woman's world. Mike especially feels that pain when his grandson, Boyd, moves out of the Baxter home along with Kristin. Boyd is the real "last man standing," and Mike will persist in trying to save the boy from his liberal-thinking parents. At the end of Season 2, Mandy was accepted to two colleges, but chooses UC Denver over an expensive college in California.

Season 3 of LAST MAN STANDING debuted on ABC on Friday, September 20, 2013 at 8pm ET/PT, featuring guest stars Willie Robertson and his uncle, Si Robertson, from DUCK DYNASTY, who portray camo-wearing and regular customers Brody and Uncle Ray. At the beginning of the new season, Mandy struggles with her new college identity -- does she go the sorority route and try to carry over her popular girl status from high school, or does she embrace her newly-blossoming intellect? Meanwhile, Eve is still a tomboy at heart and active in Junior ROTC at her high school, even though boys are beginning to notice her.

The fourth season of LAST MAN STANDING premiered on Friday, October 3, 2014 at 8pm ET/PT on ABC with back-to-back new episodes. In the night's first episode, "Here's the Kicker," Mike is ecstatic when Eve is picked to be her high school's first female kicker. But Vanessa feels high school football could be risky for their youngest daughter. Meanwhile, Eve wonders if her boyfriend, Justin, is more envious instead of enthusiastic about her achievement. Then, in "War Games," the second episode, Ryan insists Mike stop exposing his son to action movies and video games when Boyd gets sent home early from a birthday party for starting a game of "war." Meanwhile, Vanessa hopes budding fashion designer, Mandy, can help her look awesome when she meets with her still hot-looking college roommates.

LAST MAN STANDING returned for its fifth season on September 25, 2015 at 8pm ET/PT on ABC. In the season opener, "The Wolf Returns," Mike has returned from being on a fantastic two-month road trip traveling to far-flung places for Outdoor Man. It's great to be back with his wife, Vanessa, and their three daughters, but finds a lot has been going on at home as well as on the job since he's been away. To top it all off, a tornado is headed toward the Outdoor Man store and the Baxter home.

Season 6 of LAST MAN STANDING premiered on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 8pm ET/PT on ABC. In the season opener, "Papa Bear," Mike arrives for work at Outdoor Man to discover Kyle feeding stray cats off the warehouse's loading dock and quickly puts a stop to it. Meanwhile, Kristin has been working so hard preparing to host her very first brunch at the Outdoor Man Grill that husband Ryan has been feeling neglected. Later on, while watching the security camera feed, Chuck and Mike notice that Kyle left the loading dock door open, and after a closer look, they spot a surprising intruder -- a giant bear. Mike now has to find a way to get the bear out of Outdoor Man and keep his family safe.

A fan-favorite for six seasons on ABC from 2011-2017, Season 7 of LAST MAN STANDING premiered on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 8pm ET/PT on FOX. The new season stars Allen as Mike Baxter, a married father of three girls, who tries to maintain his manliness in a world increasingly dominated by women. Produced by 20th Century Fox Television, the series also stars Nancy Travis, Jonathan Adams, Amanda Fuller, Christoph Sanders, Jordan Masterson, Hector Elizondo, Molly McCook, and Jet Jurgensmeyer.

LAST MAN STANDING returned for its eighth season on Thursday, January 2, 2020 from 8-9pm ET/PT on FOX, with back-to-back new episodes. In the season opener, "No Parental Guidance; Wrench in the Works," Mike helps Vanessa deal with empty nest syndrome. Meanwhile, Kristin announces her pregnancy to the family and unknowingly upsets Mandy in the process. Then Mike and Chuck's plans to open a classic car renovation service crash when Joe (guest star Jay Leno) is invited to join in. Also, Vanessa realizes that Mandy is tricking Kyle into doing all their married chores. Additional guest stars: Kaitlyn Dever as Eve Baxter and Terry Bradshaw as Terry.

The ninth and final season of LAST MAN STANDING debuted on FOX on a special night and time -- Sunday, January 3, 2021 at 9:30pm ET/PT -- before moving to its regular timeslot -- Thursdays at 9:30pm -- beginning January 7. After the events of the Season 8 finale, during which Kristin went into labor with her baby daughter, while Mandy was pregnant with her first child, the series jumps ahead into the near future, when Mike and his wife, Vanessa, contemplate their own future, including Mike's imminent retirement from his lifelong job at Outdoor Man -- and who could be his successor. In the season opener, "Time Flies," a series of time jumps finds Mike and Vanessa with two new grandchildren, as well as Mandy and Kyle living with them. When Vanessa and Mandy clash over Vanessa's "helpfulness," Mike accidentally-on-purpose gets involved. Meanwhile, at Outdoor Man, Chuck desperately hopes it's last call on Ed's mixology happy hour.

On Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 9-10pm ET/PT, FOX premiered the one-hour series finale of LAST MAN STANDING, debuting back-to-back new episodes, with guest stars Kaitlyn Dever as Eve Baxter and Jay Leno as Joe:

"Baxter Boot Camp" (9pm): Mike teaches Kristin about work/life balance, as Vanessa and Mandy school Jen on camping. Meanwhile, Ed asks Kyle how to get into heaven.

"Keep on Truckin'" (9:30pm): Then, after Mike's beloved truck is stolen, just as he completes his 10-year renovation on it, the Baxter family and friends gather together for an emotional good-bye.

"I've been one lucky dude to have been part of LAST MAN STANDING," remarked series star and executive producer Tim Allen prior to the show's final season. "I so appreciate the incredible support from our fans over this near decade of work. As we approach the ninth season, I just admire and feel grateful for all the hard work our wonderful cast and crew have done. We had all considered to end the show after last season, but together with FOX, we decided to add a year so we could produce a full season to create the gentle and fun goodbye. I'm looking forward to a memorable and hilarious final season."
