Plot Synopsis

Created and written by Steven Knight, this new adaptation of Charles Dickens' story is the coming-of-age story of Pip, an orphan who yearns for a greater lot in life until a twist of fate introduces him to the mysterious and eccentric Miss Havisham and Estella, showing him a dark world of possibilities. Under the great expectations placed upon him, Pip will have to work out the cost of this new world and whether it will truly make him the man he wishes to be. A damning critique of the class system, Dickens' novel was published in 1861 after first releasing it in a series of weekly chapters beginning in December 1860. GREAT EXPECTATIONS premiered on Sunday, March 26, 2023 on BBC One, and later the same day made its U.S. debut on FX on Hulu. A new episode dropped weekly on Sundays through April 23.

On Sunday, April 23, 2023, FX on Hulu released the finale of GREAT EXPECTATIONS. As Pip and Jaggers' plans come to a head, Miss Havisham finally comes face to face with her demons and Estella at last tries to break free after a family revelation.
