Plot Synopsis

Alicia Florrick transforms from the "good wife" to the bread winner when her husband is sent to jail after a very public sex and political corruption scandal. While she's finding her way in the working world, she must still provide a stable home environment for her two children, Zach and Grace. Even though she was out of the courtroom for 13 years, she restarted her legal career as a junior associate at a prestigious Chicago law firm. But there was only one full-time associate position available, and she was competing with 20-something fresh recruits for the job. Cary, a recent Harvard grad, was willing do anything to get the position, and he was Alicia's main rival. Fortunately, Alicia had friends in high places -- firm partner Will Gardner is her former classmate and she befriended Kalinda, the firm's in-house investigator. She even found others at the firm willing to help -- like the firm's top litigator Diane Lockhart -- but those offers had way too many strings attached, and Alicia chose to succeed on her own merit. When it was time to make a decision, Diane appreciated Alicia's work -- and connections -- so she and Will choose to award Alicia a full-time associate position over Cary, who later took a job in the State's Attorney's office under Peter. When Peter's conviction was overturned, he won a re-election bid with the help of image consultant Eli Gold, and Car returned to the firm. But Alicia and Peter's marriage fell apart when she discovered that he slept with her supposed-friend Kalinda. Separated from her husband once again, Alicia briefly gave in to a longstanding mutual attraction with Will. Despite his betrayal, Alicia has conflicted feelings for her husband, who moves back into their old family home with their teenage kids and launches a gubernatorial campaign with the help of image consultant Eli Gold. At the end of Season 3, Will and Diane scrambled when Louis Canning and Patti Nyholm teamed up to bankrupt the firm, and Kalinda's estranged husband tracked her down in the season finale cliffhanger. Season 4 opened as Kalinda decided to stand her ground rather than continue hiding, while Diane and Will delved into the firm's financial problem, which resulted in staff and budget cuts. Plus, Peter's campaign received unexpected help from Alicia, while Eli headed off a potential scandal. At the end of the season, Alicia decided to join Cary's new firm as her husband, Peter, was elected as governor of Illinois. Season 5 picked up with the events of the previous season's finale, as Alicia tried focusing on Lockhart/Gardner's efforts to prevent the execution of a convicted murderer while she secretly planned her exit from the firm with Cary. Meanwhile, Eli helped Peter assemble his staff. Plus, the NSA is monitoring the firm's communications. Season 6 of THE GOOD WIFE premiered on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at 9:30pm ET/9pm PT. (Note that the start time in the Eastern, Central and Mountain time zones may by later, depending on the duration of the NFL football game that airs immediately before 60 MINUTES.) In the season opener, "The Line," Alicia is adamant in her refusal to run for State's Attorney despite Eli's attempts to persuade her to launch a campaign. Meanwhile, as Diane considers joining Florrick/Agos as partner, an internal crisis threatens to destroy the firm. New recurring guest stars in Season 6 include: Taye Diggs, who will portray Dean Levine-Wilkins, a meticulous and talented equity partner at Lockhart/Gardner who decides to throw in his lot with Diane Lockhart and accompany her to Alicia and Cary's company, Florrick/Agos; David Hyde Pierce, who will play a highly respected cable news legal commentator running for office because he's disgusted by the corruption and murder rate in Chicago; Connie Nielsen, who plays Ramona, a smart attorney with far-reaching Cook County connections; and Steven Pasquale, who portrays a campaign expert that Eli enlists to help Alicia with her campaign should she decide to run. THE GOOD WIFE returned for its seventh season Sunday, October 4, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT on CBS. The new season welcomes two new regulars: Jeffrey Dean Morgan playing Jason Crouse; and Cash Jumbo as attorney Lucca Quinn. Plus, THE GOOD WIFE adds three new recurring cast members: Vanessa Williams joins in November, playing Courtney Boalt, a self-made businesswoman who is potentially interested in backing Peter Florrick's campaign for President, and meets Eli Gold, sparking a mutual attraction; Peter Gallagher in the role of lawyer Ethan Carver; and Margo Martindale as Ruth Eastman, a top campaign operative responsible for past successes by underdog presidential candidates in Iowa who hides her intelligence and cunning under a fake, folksy charm. In the season opener, "Bond," Alicia attempts to revive her struggling law career by representing arrestees seeking release on bail in bond court, where she meets attorney Lucca Quinn, who competes for her clients. Also, Peter brings in national strategist Ruth Eastman to help with his presidential campaign, and creates an interesting dynamic with Eli in the process.
