Plot Synopsis

Each week, DATELINE NBC features an array of stories that range from mysteries and breaking news, to hidden-camera investigations and documentaries.

The 23rd season opened on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT with a two-hour episode, as Keith Morrison reports on the case of a healthy 31-yer-old, who suddenly died, leaving behind his fiancee and three young children and a family determined to find answers after his autopsy report reveals mysterious poisoning by antifreeze.

Season 24 of DATELINE NBC premiered on Friday, September 26, 2014 from 9-11pm ET/PT on NBC, and moving to Fridays from 8-9pm ET/PT, beginning October 24, 2014. The season opener included Dennis Murphy's "Before Dawn" report, as he chronicles the story of a young, pregnant woman found dead in her bedroom and the subsequent investigation that soon uncovered secret lives and simmering feuds swirling around her murder.

DATELINE NBC began its 26th season on Friday, September 23, 2016 from 9-11pm ET/PT, as NBC debuts the first of 15 two-hour specials scheduled for the anniversary season. The season premiere, "After the Storm," features an exclusive interview with the convicted murderer of a beautiful woman who is strangled to death in her large, upscale Austin, Texas home. Police look at the men in the victim's life, while also considering that a stranger may have killed her. Careful detective work, along with the help of many women who also encountered the mystery man, solves the case. The murderer did not testify, and this marks his first time speaking to the media. Keith Morrison reports.

Season 27 of DATELINE NBC premiered on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 9-11pm ET/PT on NBC. In the season opener, "Scorned," a love triangle leads to years of stalking, property destruction, threats, and murder.

On Friday, September 28, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT, NBC premiered the twenty-eighth season of DATELINE NBC. In the season opener, "On the Outskirts of Town," when a young woman is found dead near a soccer field in Indiana, detectives try to piece together a puzzle that leads them to an unexpected suspect.

Season 29 of DATELINE NBC premiered on Friday, September 27, 2019 from 9-11pm ET/PT on NBC. The season opener, "The Thing About Pam," the murder of a woman sets off a chain of events, leaving one man dead, another man implicated and a diabolical scheme exposed.

NBC premiered the 30th season of DATELINE NBC on Friday, September 24, 2021 from 9-11pm ET/PT with an all-new report from correspondent Keith Morrison, the first in a series of two-hour broadcasts to air throughout the year. During the season opener, "The Evil That Watches," Morrison reports on a Kentucky triple murder that divides a small town.

Season 31 of DATELINE NBC debuted on Friday, September 16, 2022 from 9-11pm ET/PT on NBC, with an all-new report from correspondent Keith Morrison on the murder of star cyclist Anna Moriah Wilson. The two-hour special features exclusive interviews with insiders in the case that sparked world-wide headlines, including the defense attorney for Kaitlin Armstrong. Armstrong is currently the only suspect in the murder investigation after U.S. Marshals arrested her in Costa Rica this summer following a weeks-long search. She has pleaded not guilty.

DATELINE NBC kicked off its 32nd season on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 9pm ET/PT on NBC, with an all-new report from correspondent Josh Mankiewicz on the fatal shooting of Jamie Faith outside his Dallas home. The two-hour special, "Losing Faith," features an exclusive interview with Darrin Lopez, the retired Army Special Forces Medic convicted of the 2020 murder. In the exclusive interview, Darrin speaks out about his relationship with Jamie's wife, Jennifer Faith, which began when they dated in high school. When the pair reconnected decades later, Darrin says he was manipulated by her false allegations of Jamie's abuse. Darrin tells Dateline that when he committed the fatal shooting, it felt like he was on a "mission in the military." The episode also also features interviews with homicide detective Chris Walton, detective Eric Barnes, federal prosecutor Rick Calvert, reporter Cyrus Cezar (AKA Smash Da Topic), Darrin's attorney Juan Sanchez, friends and family members, and others.
