Plot Synopsis

THE CURSE OF OAK ISLAND is a one-hour reality series that follows Rick and Marty Lagina, two brothers from Michigan, as they search Nova Scotia's Oak Island for treasure and artifacts. In 1795, three teenage boys discovered a strange, man-made hole on Oak Island, and as they began to dig, they found artifacts, launching a treasure hunt that has spanned more than 200 years. Many men have since taken on this hunt with the best of intentions, only to be left with decimated fortunes, broken spirits and lost lives. An ominous legend says that seven people must die in pursuit of the treasure before Oak Island will reveal her secrets. So far, the body count stands at six, four of whom -- Bob and Bobbie Restall, Karl Grasser, and Cyril Hiltz -- died only 50 years earlier in a single incident. Now, Rick and Marty are chasing a childhood dream of Rick, who, at an early age, read an article about Oak Island and became obsessed with the legend of the Money Pit, the hole originally found by teenagers Daniel McGinnis, John Smith and Anthony Vaughan. Rick and Marty start their adventure by exploring an abandoned shaft called Borehole 10-X, a tube of steel located 180-feet northeast of the Money Pit, and they find something that gives them hope for the rest of their treasure hunt. On Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT, History premiered the second season of THE CURSE OF OAK ISLAND. In Season 2, brothers Rick and Marty Lagina are ratcheting up their search for an elusive treasure that sits at the heart of a 200-year-old mystery. This time around, the brothers and their team of experts are digging deeper and pushing their search further. They will use new technology and explore new theories, hunting clues from around the world to find out what lies beneath Oak Island. In the season opener, "Once In, Forever In," Rick and Marty return to Oak Island and the strange triangle-shaped swamp to look for more clues after dating the Spanish coin they found last summer to 1652.
Season 3 of THE CURSE OF OAK ISLAND premiered on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT on History, immediately following a brand-new special "Drilling Down" (8-9pm) and an all-day marathon (10am-8pm) of encore episodes. For the past two years, Rick and Marty Lagina's Oak Island treasure hunt has largely taken place above ground. Now, after two years of planning, the Laginas are taking their quest to get to the bottom of the mystery to the next level, as Rick, Marty and their partners use today's most advanced technology as well as heavy digging and drilling equipment to go deep inside the island. The Lagina brothers will be digging deep, launching a three-prong engineering assault on their top three findings from season two: the Money Pit, 10-X, and the Swamp. They also will welcome new researchers and explore intriguing theories as to what exactly is buried on Oak Island and where X marks the spot. The one-hour special "Drilling Down" is a studio talk show that serves as a crash course for new viewers and include a variety of special guests, interviews and in-depth, thought-provoking discussion of the series.
