Plot Synopsis

Billy Crystal plays a superstar veteran comedian who is reluctantly paired with Josh Gad, an edgier up-and-coming star, in an unfiltered, behind-the-scenes look at "The Billy & Josh Show," a fictional late-night sketch comedy show, where egos and generations collide. Crystal plays a fictionalized version of himself, who has experienced pretty much everything there is to experience in Hollywood -- except having a comedy partner. That partner is Gad, also playing a caricature of his real-life personality, who likes to think he's on his way to possibly becoming the next Billy Crystal -- if they can survive making a show together. Their characters are joined by: Kristen Laybourne, the anxiety-ridden producer behind the fictional series, who frequently finds herself caught in the middle of Billy and Josh's arguments; Mitch Reed, the show's head writer; Esme McCauley, a no-nonsense production assistant; Denis Grant, the President of FX Networks; Julie, Crystal's wife; and Jamie, a transgender director, who is an old friend of Crystal's. Guest stars include: Mel Brooks, Rob Reiner, Jimmy Kimmel, McG, Tom Kenny, Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Bobby Lopez, Joe Torre, and Sugar Ray Leonard.

On Thursday, June 25, 2015, FX premiered the season finale of COMEDIANS, showing back-to-back new episodes from 10-11pm ET/PT. In the night's first episode (10pm), "Overhear," things get tense when Billy overhears Josh and his young comic friends making fun of him. Then, in the season ender (10:30pm), "Partners," Billy and Josh look to the future on the last day of shooting "The Billy & Josh Show."
