Plot Synopsis

CARIBBEAN PIRATE TREASURE is a half-hour docuseries that follows Philippe Cousteau, grandson of legendary explorer Jacques Cousteau, and his journalist wife, Ashlan, as they investigate incredible stories of lost loot and pirates' plunder in some of the world's most beautiful seas. Along with exotic marine life, the crystal blue waters of gorgeous destinations like Antigua, Dominican Republic and Belize hold countless tales of shipwrecks, pirates and valuable booty. In each 30-minute episode, Philippe and Ashlan harness their 30-year expertise to dive into a different deep-sea mystery. Meeting with passionate locals and treasure-hunting experts, the couple follows clues on land and sea in search of legendary hidden loot. In the series opener, Philippe and Ashlan head to Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas - the biggest port of call for cruise ships in the U.S. Virgin Islands, with a storied history of pirates dating back to the 17th century. The goal is to explore the story behind ruthless French pirate Jean Hamlin, his missing flagship, La Trompeuse, and the treasure that may still be with it. The trail to La Trompeuse first takes Philippe and Ashlan on a dive to potential remnants of another shipwreck, the Trinity, before leading them directly to an elite group of treasure hunters who believe they have discovered La Trompeuse's exact location. It's a top secret mission to get there, and Philippe and Ashlan are ready to see if the ocean floor contains the treasure they came to find. Season 2 of CARIBBEAN PIRATE TREASURE premiered on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from 10-11pm ET/PT, as Travel Channel debuted back-to-back new episodes. Underwater explorers Philippe Cousteau, grandson of legendary explorer Jacques Cousteau, and his journalist wife, Ashlan, continue to investigate incredible stories of pirates' plunder and lost loot. "This season, the dives are more intense, the stakes are higher and the stories are even more alluring," said Philippe. "From the Atocha's lost sister ship in Key West to Jean Lafitte's multi-billion dollar treasure, we're investigating some of history's biggest and most notorious shipwrecks." In the season opener (10pm), "Dead Man's Island: Blood and Treasure," Philippe and Ashlan head to Ecuador where they risk angry seas and modern-day pirates to investigate the ruthless buccaneer, Bartholomew Sharp. Did he attack a ship in the rough waters surrounding Dead Man's Island in 1681 and kill 300 men while pursuing his treasure -- much of which could still be on the ocean floor? Alongside armed Ecuadorean Navy escorts, Philippe and Ashlan make the dangerous crossing to the eerie island in search of clues to the fate of the lost men and their loot. Diving into the area's roiling waters, they uncover a stunning clue to the mystery that changes the course of the entire investigation. Then, in the night's second episode (10:30pm), "Key West's Lost Treasure Galleon," Philippe and Ashlan join a mission off the coast of Key West, Florida, to help prove the identity of a mystery ship that could hold millions in treasure.
