Plot Synopsis

BREAKING GENRES is a five-part docuseries that chronicles the pivotal cultural moments, the social figures, and the technological and socio-political movements that have altered the course of music by combining and merging genres while collaborating across the neatly drawn lines of the old music industry, which is learning to play by new rules. This series presents interviews with artists of all walks about the past, present, and future of genres: Why they exist, who they have served, and where they're headed. Plus, BREAKING GENRES features exclusive interviews with pioneers of the movements like Rick Rubin, Chuck D, Erykah Badu, Travis Barker, Nas, Common, The Clash's Mick Jones and Paul Simonen, super producers Ariel Rechtshaid and Diplo, Amber Coffman, Animal Collective's Avey Tare, and many more. The series opens with "The Beginning," as CeeLo Green, Erykah Badu, Kill the Noise, Destructo, Just Blaze and more trace the origin of music genres.
