Plot Synopsis

Based on the series of books by C.J. Box and executive produced by showrunner David E. Kelley, BIG SKY is a one-hour scripted series that follows private detectives Cassie Dewell and Cody Hoyt, who join forces with his estranged wife and ex-cop, Jenny Hoyt, to solve a missing persons case. While on a road trip to visit her boyfriend in Montana, Danielle Sullivan and her sister Grace are kidnapped by a truck driver on a remote part of the highway, setting off a chain of events that leads Cody and Cassie to team up with Jenny to search for the sisters. But when they discover that these are not the only girls who have disappeared in the area, they must race against the clock to stop the killer before another woman is taken. It's clear they've stumbled onto something much bigger than them all. After a six-week break, BIG SKY returned with new episodes on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 10pm ET/PT on ABC. In the winter premiere, "The Wolves Are Always Out for Blood," after Jenny and Cassie learn the truth about Cody's fate, they decide to officially team up to track down Ronald. Elsewhere, Merrilee grapples with the fact that she didn't truly know her husband, while Helen learns more about her son's recent activities. Guest starring is Patrick Gallagher as Sherriff Tubb. After a two-month break, BIG SKY returned with two new episodes on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 from 9-11pm ET/PT, as ABC debuted back-to-back installments.

On Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 10pm ET/PT, ABC premiered the second season of BIG SKY. The new season follows private detectives Cassie Dewell and Jenny Hoyt as they reunite to investigate a car wreck outside of Helena, Montana, and they soon discover that the case may not be as straightforward as it seems. As they unravel the mystery of the accident, their worlds will collide with a band of unsuspecting teens, a flirtatious face from Jenny's past, and a vicious outsider hellbent on finding answers. In the season opener, "Wakey, Wakey," after Ronald's escape, Cassie distracts herself with work at Dewell & Hoyt while Jenny, recovering from her near-death experience, decides to take Sheriff Tubb up on his offer for her to rejoin the force. Yet, even as these two seem to move in different directions, it won't be long before a mysterious accident leads them to cross paths. Elsewhere, Ronald is wrapped up in something he can't get out of but who did the wrapping? On Thursday, February 24, 2022 at 10pm ET/PT, BIG SKY returned with new episodes after a two-month break. In the mid-season premiere, "Trust Issues," Reeling from the emotional news of Joseph's death, Jenny and Cassie desperately search for answers. After Bridger and Madison receive a threatening call from Ren, Max and Rachel take matters into their own hands, frantically deciding to confide in Jenny about the drugs and money. Elsewhere, Dietrich becomes hellbent on revenge following his discovery of Travis' betrayal; and Wolf and Agatha attempt to protect Phoebe, but thanks to Ronald, all does not go according to plan.

On Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 10pm ET/PT, ABC premiered "Catch a Few Fish," the Season 2 finale of BIG SKY. In a struggle between head and heart, final resolutions are made as Jenny works to find Travis before he reaches a dangerous point of no return; meanwhile, Ren and Jag find a new familial bond and decide together how to handle their father now that he's crossed a serious line. After receiving a startling surprise from Scarlett, Cassie changes the course of her quest for justice forever. Later, with Tubb out of commission for the time being, a new sheriff comes to town; and after getting fully acquainted with Cassie and Jenny, it seems like he may just stick around for a while.

Six days earlier -- on Friday, May 13 -- ABC announced that it renewed BIG SKY for a third season.
