Plot Synopsis

Based on Lucy Maud Montgomery's novel, "Anne of Green Gables," ANNE WITH AN E is a one-hour drama series that centers on Anne Shirley, a young orphan, who arrives in Avonlea and affects the hearts and minds of everyone she meets, beginning with the pair of aging siblings who take her in. Set in Prince Edward Island in the late 1890s, this series is a coming-of-age story about an outsider who, against all odds and many challenges, fights for love and acceptance and her place in the world. Over time, 13-year-old Anne transforms the lives of Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert and eventually the entire small town in which they live with her unique spirit, fierce intellect and brilliant imagination. Anne's adventures will reflect timeless and topical issues including themes of identity, feminism, bullying and prejudice. ANNE WITH AN E -- which previously debuted in Canada with the shorter title ANNE -- had its U.S. premiere on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT when Netflix released the entire first season. In the two-hour series opener, "Your Will Shall Decide Your Destiny," a bungled message brings spirited orphan Anne Shirley to Green Gables, where unmarried siblings Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert are waiting for a boy.

The sophomore season of ANNE WITH AN E had its U.S. premiere on Friday, July 6, 2018 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as Netflix released the entire 10-episode second season. In the new season, Anne's beloved world of Green Gables becomes a much bigger place, with new faces and heartfelt lessons about love, loss and growing up. Season 2 opens with the uthberts' boarders stirring excitement with a question: Could there be gold in Avonlea? Elsewhere, Gilbert makes a new friend at sea. The steamer lands in Trinidad, bringing Bash face to face with his past. The Barrys get behind the gold rush, but Matthew and Marilla aren't so sure. An adventure away with the Barrys teaches Anne to trust her instincts. Marilla begins to suspect that her boarders aren't as innocent as they seem.

Season 3 of ANNE WITH AN E had its U.S. premiere on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as Netflix released the entire 10-episode new season. In the season opener, "A Secret Which I Desired to Divine," Anne meets a kindred spirit from a nearby Mi'kmaq village, then launches a bold quest for her 16th birthday: to learn about her lineage. Then, in the second episode, Anne revisits Saint Albans Orphanage to ask about her birth parents, and Mary's son Elijah returns home. Rachel decides Miss Stacy needs a suitor.
