Plot Synopsis

Jennifer and Kevin have been inseparable since becoming best friends at age six. So when do-gooder Jennifer graduates college and begins building a career, she thinks it's only right to let her slacker best friend Kevin move into her newly purchased house until he can get back on his feet. Seven years later, Jennifer is continuing up the career ladder while Kevin is still a golf caddy, waiting for his big break. Then, Jennifer gets engaged to corporate smooth talker Bryce who doesn't like Kevin one little bit, in part because it seems Kevin can see right through him. He wants Kevin out, particularly after proposing marriage to Jennifer after a scant six months of dating. What Jennifer doesn't know is that Bryce is mostly just using her to help climb the corporate ladder and kiss up to his boss. When Kevin finds out Bryce is cheating on Jennifer, he's determined to spare her an unhappily ever after. With the help of his meddling neighbor they discover that because he has lived with Jennifer for seven years, they're now legally married according to common law. Now it's up to Kevin to prove he is Jennifer's equal - forever.
