Plot Synopsis
Each year since 2013, VH1 has broadcast its YOU OUGHTA KNOW IN CONCERT, featuring promising musical artists who are on the brink of stardom. In addition to music from the concert, the television program also uses VH1 original short film profiles that showcase the artists' personal lives and careers. VH1's "You Oughta Know" campaign started in 2005 as an on-air and online initiative, serving as a barometer for who's hot in music, highlighting the music of a different group of emerging artists each year. In 2013, VH1 brought some of that year's "You Oughta Know" artists together on stage at New York City's Roseland Ballroom on November 11, 2013 and broadcast the inaugural concert as a two-hour program on Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 9-11pm ET/PT. Hosted by music expert Jim Shearer, this event featured performances by new artists HAIM, JOHNNYSWIM and Lorde, who were joined onstage by these "You Oughta Know" alums: Ed Sheeran; Emeli Sane; Matt Nathanson; and The Lumineers. On Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 9-11pm ET (live)/PT (tape), VH1 presented YOU OUGHTA KNOW LIVE IN CONCERT, the first time the concert has been shown live. Hosted by Nicole Richie from New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom, the 2014 event featured performances and collaborations from 11 new "You Oughta Know" artists, including A Great Big World, Aloe Blacc, American Authors, Bleachers, CHVRCHES, Echosmith, KONGOS, Mary Lambert, Tove Lo, Vance Joy, and Sam Smith. Plus, a few "You Oughta Know" alums -- Lorde, Colbie Caillat, Sara Bareilles and Ed Sheeran -- made special appearances. Scheduled presenters include: Nick Jonas; Chaka Khan; Debbie Harry; Alicia Keys; Nick Lachey; Rob Thomas; Darren Criss; and Fitz and Noelle of Fitz and The Tantrums. On the day of the concert, fans can vote via Spotify, Twitter Hashtag #ArtistNameYOK to help select the winner who will be announced in the live show. Plus, fans can watch exclusive content and on-demand performances at YOKConcert.VH1.com and the VH1 App.
