Plot Synopsis
Using re-enactments and interviews with investigators, friends and family, this docuseries chronicles murder cases that ended with dead bodies found in swamps, marshes and bogs. SWAMP MURDERS used new footage filmed at Georgia's Phinizy Swamp Nature Park, which stood in for Southern locations, from the swampy bayou of Louisiana to the Great Lake o' the Cherokees in Oklahoma -- and even rivers and lakes in Georgia, Texas, and Florida. Each 60-minute episode of this docudrama featured a single murder case, including: 19-year-old Kathy Bonney, who went missing and whose body was later pulled from Virgina's Great Dismal Swamp; a serial killer, who is sought after detectives find two women on the bottom of Georgia's Flint River; an Alabama teen, who is found dead in Louisiana after marrying the leader of a biker crew; a bank president, who goes missing after his bank is robbed; and many more murky murders. Investigation Discovery originally scheduled this series to premiere on April 22, 2013, but delayed the show's premiere with a last-minute schedule change. SWAMP MURDERS returned for its second season on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on Investigation Discovery. In the Season 2 premiere, "White Supremacist Killings," police are devastated when the bodies of an entire family -- Bill, Nancy and her 8 year-old daughter Sarah -- are pulled from the dark murky waters of the Illious Bayou. Investigation Discovery premiered the third season of SWAMP MURDERS on Wednesday August 12, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT, with more moss-covered trees, dead-end trails, creaky docks and mangrove forests that serve as ominous backdrops for the murkiest of mysteries. In the season opener, "Out of the Swamp," a young mother is stabbed four times in the chest and left for dead in the French Broad River outside Asheville, NC, but she lives long enough to seek out help -- and leave a cryptic clue for detectives. Who could have done such a thing -- and why? Season 4 of SWAMP MURDERS premiered on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT, immediately following a seven-hour marathon (2-9pm) of encore episodes. In the season opener, "A Dark Place to Die," 36-year-old Kimra Riley heads to a Sheffield, Alabama bar looking for fun and soon finds something far more sinister. Two months later, her body is found tangled up on the banks of the Tennessee River. Can police bring justice to this single mom's family? On Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT, Investigation Discovery premiered the fifth season of SWAMP MURDERS. In the season opener, "Wrong Side of the Tracks," after the body of wealthy Richard Hodges is found along the Missouri River, police find his mother has also been killed inside their home. As detectives get to work, they wonder if a secret in Richard's life might have been behind the murders.

On Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT, Investigation Discovery premiered the Season 5 finale of SWAMP MURDERS. In the season ender, "Double-Crossed," when the body of 20-year-old transgender female CeCe Dove is found floating in a suburban pond 20 miles from her Cleveland home, detectives consider motives personal and primal as they hunt down her ruthless killer.
