Plot Synopsis

STEVEN UNIVERSE is a 15-minute animated series that follows the misadventures of Steven, the ultimate little brother to the Crystal Gems, a trio of self-appointed guardians of the universe. Whether Steven is trying to find a trick to summon his magic weapon or searching for an item that can save Beach City from a magical comet hurtling toward the town, Steven and the Crystal Gems work together to save the day. Steven is a half-Gem of a boy, who is still trying to figure out his powers to become the true hero he is destined to be. He still doesn't have much control over his powers, which originate from the gem in his bellybutton, which means Gem magic can crash into his everyday life. With one foot in the human world and another in a magic world, sometimes his mortal quirks even disrupt Gem missions he takes with the Crystal Gems: Garnet, the mysterious and powerful leader; Pearl, the perfectionist who craves structure and logic; and Amethyst, the prankster and loose cannon of the group. Featured voices also include: Sinbad, Joel Hodgson, Grace Rolek, Atticus Shaffer, Reagan Gomez, and Brian Posehn, along with special guest stars Aimee Mann and Nicki Minaj. Cartoon Network originally aired the pilot of STEVEN UNIVERSE on July 27, 2013, during its Big Fan Weekend. On Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 7pm ET/PT on Cartoon Network, STEVEN UNIVERSE returned for a four-week event, "In Too Deep." with a series of earth-shattering events lead to a whole new world of trouble for Steven and the Crystal Gems. On the premiere night, Cartoon Network premiered back-to-back episodes, including: "Super Watermelon Island" (7pm), as Steven finds out what happened to all those sentient watermelons he created; and "Gem Drill" (7:15pm), as Steven takes a journey deep underground. The "In Too Deep" event ends on June 2.

On Monday, September 2, 2019 from 6-7:30pm ET/PT, Cartoon Network premiered STEVEN UNIVERSE: THE MOVIE, a 90-minute animated musical TV movie co-executive produced by Chance The Rapper and featuring collaborations with an all-star lineup of multiple award-winning artists including Chance The Rapper, Estelle, Patti LuPone, Uzo Aduba, Gallant, Aimee Mann, and much more. After so many harrowing adventures, Steven and the Gems are ready to celebrate how far they've come with a movie musical! Steven thinks his time defending the Earth is over, but when a new threat comes to Beach City, Steven faces his biggest challenge yet. With original songs by Rebecca Sugar in collaboration with: Chance The Rapper, Estelle, Gallant, Aimee Mann, aivi & surasshu, Jeff Liu, James Fauntleroy, Macie Stewart, Mike Krol, Jeff Ball, Grant Henry, and Julian "Zorsy" Sanchez. Season 6 of the series, titled STEVEN UNIVERSE: FUTURE, premiered on Saturday, December 7, 2019 from 8-9pm ET/PT, as Cartoon Network debuted four back-to-back episodes. This season, after saving the universe, Steven is still at it, tying up every loose end. But as he runs out of other people's problems to solve, he'll finally have to face his own. Haunted by the past and lost in the present, Steven begins manifesting new, uncontrollable powers that the Crystal Gems have never seen from him before. What does it all mean, and what does Steven want for his future? After a two-month break, STEVEN UNIVERSE: FUTURE returned with back-to-back new episodes on Friday, March 6, 2020 from 7-7:30pm ET/PT on Cartoon Network. New episodes aired on Fridays through March 27 when Cartoon Network premiered four back-to-back episodes from 7-8pm ET/PT.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.

On Tuesday, December 8, 2020 Warner Bros. Home Entertainment released STEVEN UNIVERSE: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION on DVD. This ultimate 15-Disc Collector's Edition Storybook features beautiful custom-made pieces of art on every page by Chromosphere Studio. Inside, it is filled with every episode of STEVEN UNIVERSE STEVEN UNIVERSE FUTURE, as well as the smash hit TV movie, "Steven Universe The Movie." Also includes hours of all-new bonus content including: Animatics, Minisodes, Commentary, Steven Universe The Movie: Sing-A-Long, and more! Cartoon Network's six-time Emmy-nominated STEVEN UNIVERSE revolves around Steven, the "little brother" to a team of magical aliens -- the Crystal Gems -- who defend the planet Earth. Steven is the son of the Crystal Gems' late leader Rose Quartz and aging aspiring rockstar Mr. Universe. Steven belongs everywhere and nowhere: he has inherited his mother's Gem and her magical powers, but also his father's humanity and charm. The show is a slice-of-life action comedy that follows Steven as he attempts to bridge the gap between the sci-fi fantasy world of Gems and the cozy, funny, simple-yet-extraordinarily-complicated world of human beings. This is a MUST OWN for STEVEN UNIVERSE fans. Buy and binge now! (Click the red "Buy DVDs" button on this page.)
