Plot Synopsis

SOUTHERN JUSTICE is a one-hour reality series that follows law enforcement agencies in Sullivan County, TN and Ashe County, NC. Led by Sheriff Wayne Anderson (Sullivan County) and Sheriff James Williams (Ashe County), these captains, lieutentants and deputies are tasked with protecting these unique, close-knit communities, which often requires a mix of action and compassion, especially because drugs or alcohol play a role in 90 percent of arrests. Where moonshine was once the most difficult banned substance to control, now it's meth, prescription-pain killers and designer drugs like bath salts and gravel. Sullivan County jail holds 700 inmates, Ashe 200, and both are nearly filled to capacity. Sullivan County, at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, covers 400 square miles and is home to 150,000 residents. Seventy miles to the East, at a higher mountain elevation of 4000 feet, Ashe County also covers 400 square miles but is home to just 27,000 residents. Nat Geo aired a sneak-peek episode of this series on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT, five months before the official series premiere on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT. SOUTHERN JUSTICE returned for its eight-episode second season on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 10pm ET/pt on Nat Geo. SOUTHERN JUSTICE returned with new episodes on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT. In this new episode, "Narco Knock Out," Deputy Burk 'Bloodhound' Murray leads a team to track down and set a trap for a heavily armed, notorious drug dealer in Sullivan County, TN.

On Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT, Nat Geo premiered the fourth season of SOUTHERN JUSTICE. In the season opener, "Manhunt Marathon," deputies in Sullivan County, TN and Ashe County, NC hunt down some of their most wanted fugitives.
