Plot Synopsis

EXPECTING AMY is a three-part docuseries that follows Amy Schumer, as she battles through an extraordinarily difficult pregnancy while documenting the formation of a comedy special. Schumer continues touring to prepare for the taping in Chicago that she isn't sure she will be able to execute. It focuses on pulling the curtain completely back on her marriage to husband Chris Fischer, and the journey to his diagnosis on the autism spectrum. From hospitalizations to going out in front of a crowd of thousands, to quiet moments at home with her family, Schumer shares it all. Beginning the day she found out she was pregnant, through the birth of her child, she showcases her incredible journey on the road, revealing the challenges of pregnancy, marriage and the execution of creating a stand-up special. Expecting Amy offers a hilarious and raw 360-degree look at this new stage of her life. It's like Jerry Seinfeld's movie "Comedian," if he had been pregnant. With her family and friends along for the ride to support her and keep her sane and balanced, she does it all with perseverance, heart and the priceless sense of humor she's known for. HBO Max released all three episodes of EXPECTING AMY on Thursday, July 9, 2020:

"Conception": Just as she's set to go on a 42-city tour, Amy learns she's pregnant with her first child. She is over the moon! As Amy works to perfect her most personal comedy special yet, she and her husband Chris begin to grow concerned as her golden second trimester still finds her violently throwing up daily. With the night of her special's taping fast-approaching, things take a scary turn.

"Gestation": After checking into the ER, Amy receives a diagnosis that gives her more insight into her hellish pregnancy, but also requires her to reschedule the taping of her special. As the new date looms, Amy and Chris reflect on their relationship and notice a concerning pattern of communication issues, prompting Chris to seek out a diagnosis of his own.

"and Birth": A 23-weeks-pregnant Amy takes the stage in Chicago to film her special (and hopefully not throw up in front of a fully packed house). After her deeply intimate set is finally captured on film, she and Chris can shift their focus to parenthood, but their excitement quickly turns to anxiety when they learn of another possible complication. At long last, Amy gives birth to her new son, Gene.
