Plot Synopsis

Adapted from TIME's original digital video series, A YEAR IN SPACE is a two-part special that follows astronaut Scott Kelly whose 12-month stay on the International Space Station (ISS) tested human limits for space travel while laying the groundwork for a manned mission to Mars. Tracking Scott Kelly's mission -- from training and launch, through his 12 months aboard the International Space Station, right up through his descent and landing -- the first installment premiered on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 from 8-9pm (check local listings), timed within a day after Scott's return to Earth when he touched down in Kazakhstan late Tuesday, March 1 (Eastern time). During Scott's mission, NASA is charting the effects of long-duration spaceflight by comparing him to his identical twin on Earth, astronaut Mark Kelly. Part 2 of A YEAR IN SPACE is scheduled to air in 2017.
