Plot Synopsis

WWII IN THE PACIFIC is the definitive history of the Pacific War, focusing on the events, notable figures, various bands of brothers, and heroic actions of the Allied powers. This three-part series takes viewers through the war starting with the conflict and tensions leading up to the war, the attack on Pearl Harbor, the evolution of the Pacific Theater, the development and dropping of the atomic bomb, up until the subsequent end of WWII. The series opens on December 7, 1941, as Japan gambles all and attacks the US. In the first months of the war it looks as though Japan is unbeatable. Then the US fights back. The War in the Pacific engulfs Asia and launches an entirely new form of naval warfare. By the summer of 1942, the US has the upper hand in the war with Japan. It has achieved Naval superiority. In the Spring of 1945 the loss of life is great for both sides but Japan refuses to surrender. US Chiefs desperately look for a way to end the war.
