Plot Synopsis

Filmed by renowned Polish underwater photographer Darek Sepilo, WILD DEEP showcases the amazing wonders that exist just beyond the shore in Earth's seas and oceans. The series begins in Asia, where the show explores the coral triangle lying between the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia, where an alien realm of incredible, unusual creatures exists: the boxfish and PomPom coral, which use their evolutionary powers of deception to survive and thrive in their fragile environments; the Harlequin Ghost Pipefish, which floats upside down and masks itself as innocuous seaweed so it can ambush its prey; and the Flamboyant Cuttlefish, which shows pulsating flashes of color to warn predators it's toxic. In subsequent episodes, the series dives into the waters surrounding Africa, Europe, Oceania and the Americas to showcase the dramatic, complex universes beneath their waves. After being shown as THE MAGIC OF THE BIG BLUE on worldwide Animal Planet channels outside the United States, Animal Planet (US) showed this series, with new title WILD DEEP, starting on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT.
