Plot Synopsis

Based on the series of "Whitstable Pearl" books by Julie Wassmer, WHITSTABLE PEARL centers on the English seaside town of Whitstable, home to Pearl Nolan, who divides her time between serving up tasty seafood delicacies in her restaurant and solving the crimes, debauchery and murder regularly brought in by the tide. Pearl is chef-proprietor of the eponymous Whitstable Pearl restaurant which she runs alongside her son, Charlie, waitress Ruby, and in spite of, her mother Dolly. She is also the owner of a newly formed detective agency, finally putting her distant police-training to good use. Pearl's frustrations with the police's own investigations bring her into conflict with DCI Mike McGuire recently down from London which she finds infuriating, yet somehow, she can't seem to stay away from him. Meanwhile, the undertow beneath is pulling Pearl into the secrets washed up with the death of close family friend Vinnie Rowe in Episode One, that threaten everything she knew of her own family before revealing the dark secret her mother has submerged for 30 years. The first two episodes of WHITSTABLE PEARL dropped on Acorn TV on Monday, May 24, 2021, with a new episode debuting each Monday through June 21.

Season 2 of WHITSTABLE PEARL debuted on Monday, November 28, 2022 on Acorn TV, as the streaming service released the first two episodes of the new season. After Pearl juggled her commitments to the restaurant -- the eponymous Whitstable Pearl -- with her side hustle as a PI in Season 1, she's now prioritizing her detective work in Season 2. She transitions from being a chef who solves crimes to a full-time investigator who just happens to own a restaurant. Pearl's cases overlap with ex-boyfriend, Mike McGuire's police investigations. Their relationship is charged by a determination to outdo each other, and a fiery mutual attraction. When they compete, sparks fly and tempers flare. When they work together, they make a hell of a team.

On Monday, December 12, 2022, Acorn TV released the final two episodes of WHITSTABLE PEARL's second season:

"Hidden Treasures": Dolly notices unexplained things happening in her house: the shower being left on when she hasn't used it, money going missing and then reappearing, the radio tuned to the wrong station. Pearl fears her mother is showing early signs of Alzheimer's disease, but she hooks up security cameras to placate her. What they see on the footage leads to a surprising solution to the problem.

"To Those We Love": Pearl caters a wedding at a theme park, but the reception is marred by heated arguments and tensions among the guests -- and that's before Pearl and Ruby discover the bride stabbed to death in the hall of mirrors. Mike suspects the groom, but Pearl has doubts. Worried for her welfare, Mike urges Pearl to stay out of it, but she can't resist investigating, even when it leads her straight into danger.
