Plot Synopsis

This reality series follows Robbie Montgomery, one of the original back-up singers for Ike and Tina Turner in the 1960s, as she and her son and business partner, Tim, run two Sweetie Pie's restaurants in St. Louis, Missouri and develop plans to open a third soul foul establishment in the area. After the singing stopped, Miss Robbie took her mother's soul food recipes, passed down through generations, and opened the first Sweetie Pie's restaurant in 1996 on the South side of St. Louis. As her eatery became iconic and wildly popular, she opened a second restaurant -- this time on the North side of St. Louis -- so that Sweetie Pie's at the Mangrove would satisfy those customers who weren't willing to make the half-hour drive to the original. Now at age 71, she's upping the ante and preparing to open a third restaurant with Tim's help. While Tim and his girlfriend, Jenae, also prepare for the birth of their first child -- and their wedding, if Tim can get the guts to propose -- Miss Robbie, who has never been married, continues to look for love. In February 2010, Miss Robbie received $425,227 in Brownfield Redevelopment Incentives to renovate the building for Sweetie Pie's Upper Crust, her third establishment, in a formerly segregated section of St. Louis. To expand her soul-food empire, she wants her new location to offer breakfast, banquet and meeting space, and separate bakery sales. But will she be able to secure a bank loan, finish renovations and get the new eatery off the ground in time? Season 3 premiered on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT, as Miss Robbie considered closing down her first restaurant. Meanwhile, Tim and Jenae struggled with their emotions around their separation, and Tim regretted letting Charles move in after enduring his continued shenanigans. WELCOME TO SWEETIE PIE'S returned for its fourth season on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN. In the Season 4 premiere, Miss Robbie tries to keep the peace between a battling Jan and Michelle at the West Florissant store, Tim and Charles travel to Houston in search of a new restaurant location, and Jenae is left to consider what a move would mean for her family. On Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN, WELCOME TO SWEETIE PIE'S returned for the summer of Season 4, as Miss Robbie and her son, Tim, prepared to expand their restaurant empire beyond St. Louis with a new location on historic Beale Street in Memphis, TN. Getting the restaurant together is no easy task as they prepare to renovate the new location and find staff to train in time for the summer rush. Meanwhile, back in St. Louis, Tim struggles with planning the move to Memphis while continuing to manage the local restaurants, and hires a new district manager, Ma'ri, who quickly implements change and starts ruffling the staff's feathers. As if Miss Robbie's plate wasn't full enough, she's also launching her new Sweetie Pie's Sweet Tea line. WELCOME TO SWEETIE PIE'S returned for its fifth season on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN. In the new season, Miss Robbie and her son Tim deal with the ups and downs of running their rapidly expanding soul food empire, along with a few new faces getting schooled in the art of soul food. With the fate of the Beale Street restaurant still undecided, Tim hustles to open the family's first drive-thru location in St. Louis. Seeking to right a past wrong, Miss Robbie heads back in the studio to record a song she was forbidden to sing back in the '60s. Later, the family faces the civil unrest in Ferguson following the shooting of Michael Brown, and Tim plays a key role in bringing the community together. WELCOME TO SWEETIE PIE'S returned with new episodes on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN. Miss Robbie and Tim are taking their soul food empire to the stars and fanfare of Los Angeles, where they are opening a fifth restaurant. Tim has brought an all-star team across the country to help bring Sweetie Pie's signature style and flavor to this big-time city, but not everyone will play nice. Living in the home of show business has also re-lit Miss Robbie's musical fire, and she is as determined as ever to get a new song recorded. With Hollywood just down the street, you never know who may stop in. In the first episode, "NoHo or NoGo?," the lights go out in the new restaurant in North Hollywood and Miss Robbie is fed up with Tim's lack of follow-through; tension between Charles, Chloe and Danielle could spell disaster. A new season of WELCOME TO SWEETIE PIE'S premiered on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. In the new season, the family deals with tragedy when they learn of the senseless murder of Miss Robbie's grandson, Andre. Meanwhile, as Miss Robbie and Tim fight to expand their soul food dynasty, the continuing violence in St. Louis causes them to question their flagship location. With Tim assuming more responsibility in the business, Miss Robbie finally has time to embrace her musical comeback as Tim pushes his mother to take her show on the road. With the Sweetie Pie's brand poised to enter the mainstream, Miss Robbie must try to keep a lid on Tim's over-ambitious dreams for the family business. On Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network premiered a new season of WELCOME TO SWEETIE PIE'S. In the new season, Miss Robbie and Tim attempt to mend their mother/son relationship by dividing the family business. Tim heads to Houston to rebound by opening up a new, full-service restaurant, while continuing his relationship with reality star Jennifer Williams - who puts on the pressure to get engaged. Charles and Chloe leave Los Angeles and strap on their cowboy boots to follow Tim to the Lone Star State, while he also brings Monique down from St. Louis to manage the bar and live entertainment. Just as the Houston restaurant seems to find its groove, Hurricane Harvey hits, shutting its doors and scattering this work family across the country. Not to be outdone, Miss Robbie thinks she's keeping it simple by pursuing her dream of owning a classic burger joint while continuing to run Upper Crust, perform for her fans and spend time with her growing grandson, TJ. But as her 77th birthday approaches, the Montgomery family's matriarch contemplates her legacy as she seriously considers retirement.
