Plot Synopsis

Provided with the same tools, materials and theme, two teams made up of artists, rocket scientists, animatronic specialists, and engineers have five days to design and build a chain-reaction contraption in which a series of mechanisms use refined mechanical movements, pyrotechnics and large-scale destruction to accomplish some task. Teamwork and outside-the-box thinking are critical as teams create massive machines that trigger the next link in the chain, while sticking with themes like Heavy vs. Light, Fire & Ice, Flight, Speed, Tools and Movie Mayhem. At the end of each 60-minute episode, MYTHBUSTERS' Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman are joined by a new guest judge to decide which team impressed them the most with their innovation, energy and showmanship. The teams include: Blecha Brothers, a team of Hollywood set carpenters who have worked in various art departments for television; Team Crash Space, electronics experts comprised of hackers, programmers, builders, makers and artists; Team Aerospace, consisting of staffers at Edwards Air Force Base and NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center; Team NAC, a Special Effects & Prop Animation company; Teams Freeman, a group of friends from various engineering fields; T-5, a group of artists who hail from Taos, New Mexico; Chain Crew, a team who all work in the auto parts/motorcycle mechanic field; Team Monster Squad, creature effects specialists; Super Special, a creative "jack of all trades" team; Juggernaut, a team of construction workers; Team InSaign, a group that specializes in working with metal; and Fail Fail Fail Win, a team of mostly multimedia artists who like to break things to see what new objects they can create with the pieces. The guest judges are: Adrian Hightower, Assistant Professor of Engineering at Harvey Mudd College; Adam Sadowsky, President, Syyn Labs; W. Daniel Hillis, Co-Chairman, Applied Minds, LLC; Julia Greer, Assistant Professor of Materials Science & Mechanics at California Institute of Technology; and Rick Baker, Academy Award winning Special Effects Make-Up Artist.
