Plot Synopsis

Journalist, best-selling author, and high-profile trial expert Aphrodite Jones leads audiences through the twists and turns of true stories in an attempt to reveal the motivations of perpetrators. She uses investigative work and never-before-seen interviews to break down the deception strategies of both notorious and previously unknown culprits, determined to uncover the truth and explain what drives people to violence. She'll explore the following cases: Scott Peterson; the 40-year-old Zodiac Killer mystery; Michael Jackson's death; the Menendez Brothers; the O.J. Simpson trials; Chandra Levy's murder; and the Phil Spector conviction. TRUE CRIME returned for its third season on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT on Investigation Discovery, with an episode about millionaire Bill McLaughlin, who landed himself a sexy live-in girlfriend -- but her lover had other ideas. Season 4 debuted on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT on Investigation Discovery. In the season opener, Aphrodite Jones gets the full story about Methodist minister AB Schirmer, who loses his wife in a freak automobile accident, but there are open question whether her death was really an accident. On Monday, March 16, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, Investigation Discovery premiered the fifth season of TRUE CRIME. In the season opener, "Guilty Until Proven Innocent," a driven investigative reporter in Chicago is asked to look into the unsolved murder of a local teacher, and she discovers a series of coincidences that point not only to a suspect in this murder, but in two other murders as well. Season 6 of TRUE CRIME WITH APHRODITE JONES premiered on Monday, May 2, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on Investigation Discovery. In the season opener, "A Murder & an Open Marriage," Ed and Ellen Sherman have finally gotten their lives back on track after a brief separation and are experiencing a second honeymoon of sorts. Ellen is over five months pregnant when Ed leaves to join his friends on their annual sailing trip. While Ed's away, Ellen's nude body is found strangled to death in their bedroom. The murder investigation is enough to shake the small Connecticut town to its core when allegations of wife swapping and multiple affairs come to light. The case goes cold until a famous forensic scientist and a teenager help crack the case. Subsequent episodes in the sixth season include these stories: a long haul trucker who disappears just before New Years; a young woman with a new job and on the verge of marriage is found dead in her home with her throat slit and "#1" scrawled on the wall in lipstick; 38 year-old Danny Coleman's charred remains are discovered 50 miles from home; and two frat brothers become inseparable, but after college their once close friendship ends in murder.
