Plot Synopsis

TRUE CONVICTION is a one-hour docuseries that explores real stories of how homicide cases are solved on the street and won in the courtroom in a close cooperation between detectives and prosecutors. In each episode, prosecutor Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi visits the scene of the crime, examines the case through the eyes of the prosecutor, and meets with key figures at the center of the case including the loved ones and investigators. Nicolazzi spent 21 years as a prosecutor with the Brooklyn District Attorney's office, where she held a 35-0 success record in the Homicide Bureau. Now, in this series, Nicolazzi shares her personal reflections and insight into the case, connects elements of the story to her own experiences as a prosecutor, and reveals how the complex layers of each murder investigation came together in the courtroom. On Monday, January 1, 2018 at 5pm ET/PT, Investigation Discovery premiered a single sneak-peek episode of TRUE CONVICTION, with the official series premiere scheduled for Tuesday, January 16 at 11pm. The series then settles into its regular timeslot -- Tuesdays at 10pm -- on January 23. In the sneak-peek episode, "A Match to Murder," it's March 2000, and life couldn't be sweeter for 71-year-old Margarita Ruiz and her adult daughter Hope. They spend their days in the warm Florida sunshine caring for Hope's two young children. Then one morning, a stranger arrives at the Ruiz home and senselessly murders both women. Detectives and family members are stunned and the case goes unsolved for six years. Then, out of the blue, a mysterious phone call from nearly 1500 miles away leads investigators to the killer. Nicolazzi travels to Florida to revisit the shocking crime and talk with the dogged detective and tenacious prosecutor who ultimately won justice for the Ruiz family.

The second season of TRUE CONVICTION premiered on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT on Investigation Discovery. In the season opener, "The Stalker," after computer whiz Cari Farver goes missing, she starts sending threatening text messages to a new boyfriend, his ex-lover, and her mother. It's up to police to determine if she's a deranged stalker or victim of murder.

Season 3 of TRUE CONVICTION premiered on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 11pm ET/PT on Investigation Discovery. In the season opener, "Shattered Home," the town of Plumville, Pennsylvania, is rocked by the murder of Theresa Dalessio. Shot at home with her family nearby, the crime is confounding. Theresa has no obvious enemies, but as evidence emerges, suspects are revealed -- including her own husband. The series then moved to discovery+, where the streaming service released the next four Season 3 episodes one week later on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT. After a 10-week break, TRUE CONVICTION returned with new episodes on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 on discovery+, as the streaming service released the next five episodes of TRUE CONVICTION's third season. In the mid-season premiere, "Justice Under Attack," surveillance video captures the drive-by shooting of father Nicoh Mayhew. Nicoh's nephew is a prime suspect but has an airtight alibi -- he's in jail. Crime scene video and jail calls uncover a murder plot that threatens the entire justice system.

TRUE CONVICTION returned for its fourth season on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 10pm ET/PT on Investigation Discovery. Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi returns to explore real-life stories of how homicides are solved on the street but won in the courtroom. With more than two decades of experience in the judicial system, no one knows the delicate dance between arrest and conviction better than Brooklyn homicide prosecutor Nicolazzi. Viewers are invited to join her as she travels across the country to reveal how the nation's top prosecutors tackled their toughest cases. Reliving the crime with the detectives who were on the scene and connecting with those who were left behind, Nicolazzi shows the many paths of justice from crime to verdict. New episodes include:
