Plot Synopsis

Using cell phone footage, video of local news reports, police dashboard cameras and first-person interviews, TORNADO ALLEY chronicles the destruction wrought by tornadoes. Each 60-minute episode of TORNADO ALLEY focuses on a different disaster, including: the EF5 tornado that touched down in Moore, OK, on May 20, 2013; a tornado that struck Joplin, MO, on May 22, 2011; and many more terrifying twisters that destroyed towns across the United States. TORNADO ALLEY premiered on the first night of Weather Channel's Tornado Week 2014. TORNADO ALLEY returned for its second season on Monday, April 27, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT on The Weather Channel. This season, the series analyze twisters through two formats, "Real Time Tornado" and "I Survived a Tornado." "Real Time Tornado" takes viewers minute-by-minute through a tornado as the episode retraces each twisted path. Survivors recount their harrowing tales, and footage from witnesses offers first-hand accounts among the wreckage. In "I Survived a Tornado," industry experts speak with survivors to try and understand the extraordinary event, while piecing together the timeline. These accounts are brought to life through a series of experiments designed to break down the scientific unlikelihood of their survival.
