Plot Synopsis

Fourteen deep-in-debt contestants work together in timed challenges as they try to move one ton of cash ($1 million) across tortuous terrain from Malibu, California to Las Vegas, Nevada while avoiding elimination at the completion of each leg. If they complete a task on time, all of the money moves to the next location. If not, the money that didn't reach the cash point is lost forever. The last person remaining wins whatever cash is left at the end of the competition. Starting in Malibu, the group is given one ton of cash in the form of 167 bricks of bills that each weigh 12 pounds. The 300-mile journey is broken into multiple legs, with each leg having a challenge and a bus ride to the next location. In the challenges, contestants move the money to a cash point by lugging it through city streets, over mountain ranges, or across river rapids, using their hands, sleds, stretchers, canoes and whatever else they can find to make the job easier. At the beginning of each task, one team member is given the title of 'financial adviser.' As soon as the 'financial adviser' presses a red button at the cash point, the challenge stops and whatever money is at the cash point moves to the next round. If the 'financial adviser' presses the red button before the target time, that person has immunity and can't be eliminated. But if the 'financial adviser' allows the clock to run past the target time, that person is automatically eligible for elimination and the team loses $1,000 for every second the clock runs past the target time, but the team can still place more money at the cash point until the red button is pressed. At the end of the challenge and after the bus ride, where players get to know each other, drink and carouse, the 'financial adviser' must select up to three players for elimination. During the elimination vote, each remaining contestant 'invests' in one of the three competitors by placing a bundle of cash in a drawer. The contestant with the most money gets to stay while the two remaining contestants compete in a prove-your-worth challenge, with the loser being sent home.
