Plot Synopsis

Directed by Dawn Porter and Nicole Newnham, 37 WORDS is a four-part documentary series that tells an essential story of Title IX's impact on women's sports. This docuseries tells the inspiring story of Title IX -- the hard-fought battle to push for equal rights in education and athletics; the decades-spanning effort to nullify its impact; and the rippling impacts of the landmark civil rights law that continue to resonate today. Te four-part series charts the spectacular transformation that 37 words have inspired in American culture and the lives of women, as well as the many ways in which the spirit of this bold law has yet to be fully realized. On the 50th anniversary of the federal civil rights law, 37 WORDS (part of ESPN's Fifty/50 Month of Title IX anniversary content) includes these episodes:

"Part 1: Too Pushy for a Woman" (Tuesday, June 21 at 8pm ET/5pm PT on ESPN): In the 1960s, women's opportunities in America are fundamentally limited. But when the civil rights movement reveals a new path to progress, the creativity and determination of a small group leads to the passage of Title IX, a law few saw coming.

"Part 2: These Are Our Bodies" (Tuesday, June 21 at 9pm ET/6pm PT on ESPN): In the 1970s, buoyed by Title IX, the first generation of the new legislation's beneficiaries work to turn its lofty legal language into a reality. At times at great personal cost, these women transform the promise of 37 words into true progress.

"Part 3: The Daughters of Title IX" (Tuesday, June 28 at 8pm ET/5pm PT on ESPN): After a generation of Title IX, women who've had the doors of opportunity opened to them become stars who win Olympic gold medals and World Cups, persevering past discrimination to inspire young girls and boys alike and create even more change.

"Part 4: Generation Next" (Tuesday, June 28 at 9pm ET/6pm PT on ESPN): Fifty years after Title IX was passed, the fight continues for equality on and off the field. Now, the next generation has taken the mantle in the ongoing quest for justice.
