Plot Synopsis

THE TERROR is an anthology series with a new story each season.

Inspired by a true story, Season 1 of THE TERROR centers on the British Royal Navy's perilous voyage into unchartered territory as the crew attempts to discover the Northwest Passage in 1845. Faced with treacherous conditions, limited resources, dwindling hope and fear of the unknown, the crew is pushed to the brink of extinction. Frozen, isolated and stuck at the end of the earth, this series highlights all that can go wrong when a group of men, desperate to survive, struggle not only with the elements, but with each other. Cold, isolated and stuck at the end of the earth, the seamen also face a mysterious threat by something out in the frigid darkness, stalking their ship, snatching one man at a time and leaving bodies mangled or missing. The real expedition led to more than 120 crew members inexplicably disappearing, warranting a great deal of speculation ever since. Their fate is one of the enduring mysteries of the age of exploration. Following two-centuries of searching, coincidentally, the ships were discovered by arctic research groups in 2014 and 2016. The crew includes: Francis Crozier, captain of the HMS Terror and second in command of the expedition, who has reached his glass ceiling in Her Majesty's Royal Navy; Sir John Franklin, captain of HMS Erebus and commander of the expedition, who is an experienced leader with a blemished record in the Royal Navy; Captain James Fitjames, a rising star in the British Royal Navy, who has secured John Franklin's confidence in spite of his never having sailed in the polar regions before; Dr. Henry Goodsir, the most junior of the expedition's four doctors, who is of the first to realize something supernatural is at play; Cornelius Hickey, a young petty officer whose rank on the ships should keep him invisible to the officers; Thomas Blanky, a longtime friend of Francis Crozier, who has the experience to be a captain but prefers the thrill and challenge of battling the constant puzzle of the Arctic ice. On Sunday, March 25, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT, AMC premiered a one-hour sneak preview of THE TERROR, with the official two-hour series premiere from 9-11pm ET/PT the following day on Monday, March 26.

The second installment of this series, titled THE TERROR: INFAMY, centers on a series of bizarre deaths that haunt a Japanese American community, and a young man's journey to understand and combat the malevolent entity responsible. In addition, the series is one of the first depicting the internment of Japanese Americans on such a massive scale -- complete with authentically recreated camps in scope and scale as post-WWII. In the season opener, "A Sparrow in a Swallow's Nest," in 1941 strange events mean Chester Nakayama is caught between his community and personal life. The series stars Derek Mio as Chester Nakayama; Kiki Sukezane as Yuko, a mysterious woman from Chester's past; Cristina Rodlo as Luz, Chester's secret girlfriend; Shingo Usami as Henry Nakayama, Chester's father; Naoko Mori as Asako Nakayama, Chester's mother; Miki Ishikawa as Amy, a Nakayama family friend; and renowned actor, producer, author and activist George Takei as Yamato-san, a community elder and former fishing captain. Takei also serves as a consultant.
