Plot Synopsis

Correspondents travel around the world to explore the latest scientific discoveries, discussing their controversies, celebrating human achievement, and revealing how they affect daily life. In each 30-minute episode, three correspondents report on different stories, including these segments in the premiere episode: genetically-modified salmon, as Cara Santa Maria reported from Vancouver, Seattle and Alaska, where people have strong opinions about wild salmon, farmed fish, and genetically-modified seafood; a one-year update on NASA's Mars rover, Curiosity, which provided Phil Torres the chance to interview flight director 'Mohawk Guy' Bobak Ferdowsi at NASA's Jet Propulsion Labratory in Pasadena, CA; and a vertical garden that grows inside Chicago O'Hare International Airport, as Kosta Grammatis investigated vertical farming and how some schools are using it to teach kids about healthy eating. TECHKNOW's young, tech-savvy contributors include: Kosta Grammatis, an engineer and non-profit founder, who works at SpaceX and whose expertise includes everything from designing and building satellites to creating bionic eyes; Phil Torres, a conservation biologist, who discovered a new species of spider, which was the biggest science story of 2012 for some media outlets; Cara Santa Maria, a science communicator and TAKEPART LIVE co-host, who has a background neurobiology and teaching; and many more people in science, technology, and other technical trades, who have a uniquely informed and analytical perspective.
