Plot Synopsis

In this loosely scripted series, actors relay hysterical and outrageous true stories of couples dealing with their in-laws, while protecting the identities of the real people behind these tales of family dysfunction. When people tie the knot, they're not just marrying their spouse, but an entire family, often leading to over-bearing mothers-in-law and interfering fathers. In each 30-minute episode of this series, two couples sit on a couch and share their stories, including: a couple whose visiting in-laws overstay their welcome; a bride-to-be who is concerned that their wedding will be ruined by the groom's divorced, dysfunctional parents; a new bride who must figure out how to deal with her overly controlling mother-in-law, still wanting to be the only woman in her son's life; and a couple forced to deal with their in-laws who are corrupting their son with their outdated parenting style. On Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT, TLC aired two, back-to-back episodes of SURVIVING THE IN-LAWS. At that time TLC had no additional episodes on its schedule, but the cable channel may order additional episodes, depending on the ratings of this backdoor pilot.
