Plot Synopsis

After learning that his parents are preparing to sell the family business, Steve Sullian, a corporate attorney in New York City, quits his job, breaks up with his girlfriend, and returns to his hometown Pittsburgh to run Sullivan & Son, a pub that is the unofficial town hall for the neighborhood. When Steve and girlfriend Ashley visit Pittsburgh for his father's 60th birthday, he learns that his Irish-American father, Jack Sullivan, and his Korean mother, Ok Cha, are preparing to sell the multi-generational family business, a bar known as Sullivan & Son. As he reconnects with old friends and visits the pub filled with locals and regulars, it doesn't take Steve long to realize that he's been unfulfilled with his life as a corporate lawyer in New York and that he really belongs in the old neighborhood running Sullivan & Son. Once Steve becomes the pub's resident bartender/lawyer, he finds it sometimes frustrating, sometimes rewarding, dealing with these family members, fast friends and pub regulars: his mother Ok Cha, who speaks her mind and tells Steve she did not want him to give up his job as a prestigious lawyer in New York, but in the end she is delighted to have him home; his father Jack, who ran the pub for over 30 years and is now happy working alongside his son behind the bar, which suits his laid-back, wise and patient personality; his younger sister Susan, who is consumed by her one-sided sibling rivalry with Steve, the family's golden child, and who can't seem to do anything right in the eyes of her mother -- but that doesn't stop her from trying; Owen Walsh, Steve's childhood friend, who makes up for his lack of intelligence with loyalty and optimism and is just happy to hang out at the bar with his Mom and his friends; Carol Walsh, the pub's resident party girl for 30 years, who, as a single mother, has a close but unusual relationship with her son Owen, sometimes acting more like a frat brother than a mother; Hank Murphy, a regular at the bar, who is kind and beloved despite -- or maybe because of -- his often inappropriate views on race and ethnicity; and Melanie Sutton, a no nonsense down-to-earth paramedic, who grew up with Steve, sharing chemistry with him even though they've never acted on it. SULLIVAN & SON kicked off its second season on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT on TBS, with a debut episode that featured guest star Ken Jeong as Susan's husband, who, like Steve, also considered leaving his successful career to follow his bliss. SULLIVAN & SON returned for its third season on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT, as TBS showed back-to-back new episodes. In the Season 3 premiere, "The Big O," the marriage of Susan and Jason faces a big test when Jason realizes that he's never fully pleased his wife in bed. In the night's second episode, "Everybody Loved Frank," a widow comes into the bar with the news that Frank, an alleged bar regular, has passed away, but Steve and the gang can't figure out who he is. In Season 3, Kunal Nayyar returns as Neal, the ultimate ladies man who tried to steal a few hearts during the bar's Ladies Night at the bar last season.

Tonight's episode (Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT on tbs) of SULLIVAN AND SON is the Season 3 finale. In the season ender, "You, Me and Gary," Melanie and Steve want to keep their new thing quiet after they've kissed, but Melanie's nosy neighbor Gary (guest star John Michael Higgins) isn't one to keep secrets.
