Plot Synopsis

Billed by the show's executive producers as a "fusion between geology and engineering," STRIP THE CITY uses CGI animation to peel back layers of steel, concrete, ocean and bedrock to reveal what lies beneath the world's major cities and to explore the hidden technology and infrastructure that keeps them running. Each 60-minute episode highlights a different city, including: Rome, chronicling the ingenious technology behind the Pantheon, Coliseum, Trevi Fountain, and Via Appia; San Francisco, documenting the secrets inside this city's skyscrapers, what protects the city from raging fires, and what keep residents safe during the deadliest quakes; Dubai, showing what keeps its buildings standing, protects them from desert storms, and keeps residents alive in the searing heat; Sydney, uncovering everything from the concealed contours of the harbor that allow super-sized ships to sail into the heart of the city to the underground caverns that store its water; and two more cities -- Toronto and London -- in this series' first season. Science Channel aired the U.S. premiere of this series on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT.

Immediately following a marathon (7-10pm ET/PT) of encore episodes, STRIP THE CITY returned to Science Channel for its second season on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT. The Season 2 premiere tore back the layers of New York City, exploring the infrastructure of steel and concrete that keeps it standing through massive storms.
