Plot Synopsis

Using video footage, instructive demonstrations, and first-person expert interviews, STRANGEST WEATHER ON EARTH reveals several examples of weird, wacky and extreme weather from around the globe. From raining frogs to volcano smoke rings and instant ice storms to huge sandstorms, this half-hour series explores what happened for each condition and investigates their likely causes. Each 30-minute episode highlights up to six different outrageous weather events, including: elephant-sized lumps of ice falling from the sky; rainbows that appear at night; a thunderstorm that makes mysterious ball lightning; waves of ice on a hot summer day in Australia; flowers of ice growing in the Artic; bolts of lightning striking from blue skies; a tsunami of fog; upside-down lightning; lakes full of perfectly round ice balls; three suns appear to hang in the sky; a giant wall of dust that smothers Phoenix; a thunderstorm that rains fish; exploding frozen bubbles; and much more. This series premiered on the final day of The Weather Channel's HURRICANE WEEK 2013. STRANGEST WEATHER ON EARTH returned for its second season on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT, airing as part of the Weather Channel's "Wicked Weather Sundays." In the season opener, "Raining Spiders," lightning creates a storm of spiders, and freaky weather turns a beach into a winter wonderland. On Sunday, September 13, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, Weather Channel premiered the third season of STRANGEST WEATHER ON EARTH, immediately following an eight-hour marathon (1-9pm). The Season 3 premiere, "Freak Weather," spotlights weird lightning, deadly rain bombs, freak desert hailstorms, submarine volcanos, crystal clear lakes one can walk on and rain-carved rock.
