Plot Synopsis

Based on the stage version of the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "The Sound of Music," THE SOUND OF MUSIC LIVE! is a three-hour live television event that stars Carrie Underwood in the iconic role of Maria, a vivacious young governess who falls in love with straitlaced Captain von Trapp and his seven children and soon leads them all to embrace the joy of music and sing along. Filmed and broadcast live from New York City, this adaptation features the iconic songs "Do-Re-Mi" and "Sixteen Going on Seventeen." THE SOUND OF MUSIC LIVE! premiered on Thursday, December 5, 2013 on NBC to an audience of 18.6 million viewers. NBC broadcasts encore presentations of the program each year during the holiday season.
