Plot Synopsis

Based on Philipp Meyer's novel of the same name, THE SON a ten-episode series that traces the story of Eli McCullough's transformation from good-natured innocence to calculated violence, as he loses everything on the wild frontier, setting him on the path to building a ranching-and-oil dynasty of unsurpassed wealth and privilege. Spanning 150 years and three generations, THE SON explores how Eli's ruthlessness and quest for power triggers centuries-long consequences, as the McCulloughs rise to become one of the richest families -- mirroring the birth and rise of three empires: oil, Texas and America. On Saturday, April 8, 2017 from 9-11pm ET/PT, AMC broadcast the series premiere of THE SON, showing back-to-back new episodes, "First Son of Texas" and "The Plum Tree." The series opens with Eli McCullough surviving a Comanche attack in 1849, and in 1915, leading his family's empire.

Season 2 of THE SON premiered on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT on AMC. The second season concludes the journey of the iconic "First Son of Texas." Eli McCullough will stop at nothing to secure his legacy against the backdrop of the nascent oil industry of 1917. His tools are deceit, fraud and murder -- weapons he wields with the effortless skill of the Comanche warrior he once was. But the biggest challenge he faces will be quelling a civil war under his own roof, triggered by his idealistic son Pete. Eli knows the ultimate prize of American dynasty is nearly in his grasp, and time is running out. Meanwhile, in 1851, young Eli is now married and a respected warrior among the Comanches, but tragedy forces him into a leadership position as the vast Comanche empire crumbles around him. Broadening the scope, a 1988 timeline is introduced, bringing the McCullough saga into the more immediate past. Here, at age 85, Eli's granddaughter Jeanne Anne McCullough is confronted with a long-buried family secret. In the season opener, "Numunuu," young Eli leads a daring Comanche raid into Mexico in 1852; in 1915, the McCullough family confronts a threat to their growing oil business.
On Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT, AMC premiered "Legend," the series finale of THE SON. Young Eli is forced into a life-changing decision in 1852. In 1916, Eli wages a final war with Standard Oil, forcing a confrontation with Pete.
