Plot Synopsis

SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT is a series of socially relevant and critically acclaimed documentary films, with each program bookended by an introduction -- sometimes with new and never-before-seen footage -- and a post-film session allowing the film's producer and guests to discuss the doc and provide an update. The films in Season 1 included: BATTLE FOR BROOKLYN, which follows the story of reluctant activist Daniel Goldstein as he struggles to save his home and community from being demolished to make way for the controversial Atlantic Yards project, a massive plan to build sixteen skyscrapers and a basketball arena for the New Jersey Nets; CHARLIE IS MY DARLING - IRELAND 1965, introduced by MTV News' Kurt Loder and featuring a post-film discussion between film producer and former Rolling Stones' manager Andrew Loog Oldham and Foo Fighters founder Dave Grohl (pictured), which is an intimate, behind-the-scenes diary of life on the road with the young Rolling Stones in their first professionally filmed concert performances; BIG BOYS GONE BANANAS!*, which follows the battle between Swedish documentary filmmaker Fredrik Gertten and the fruit giant Dole Food Company, as the multinational company attacks film producers with a defamation lawsuit -- while also utilizing scare tactics, media control and public-relations spin -- to prevent the film BANANAS!* from being released; and nine more films in this series' first season.

SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT returned for its second season on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 8pm ET/PT. Season 2 included these films: HAITI UNTOLD, which chronicles the personal journey of a few famous (Sean Penn, Donna Karan, George Laraque, and others) and not-so-famous individuals who have put their heads and hearts to the task of effecting radical change in Haiti, following the devastating earthquake of 2010; DRAWING DEAD: THE HIGHS AND LOWS OF ONLINE POKER, which is an insightful look into the highs and lows of online poker from two very different perspectives: a professional poker player worth millions, and a gambling addict; SHORED UP, which follows communities in New Jersey and North Carolina where politics, economics and science collided after Superstorm Sandy devastated the East Coast; JFK: A PRESIDENT BETRAYED, which uncovers new evidence that reveals how John F. Kennedy was determined to get out of Vietnam and how we was subverted by government officials; DESERT RUNNERS, which follows a diverse group of non-professional runners and their attempt to complete the most difficult ultra-marathon race series on Earth; and more.
