Plot Synopsis

Based on Petra Hammesfahr's book of the same name, Season 1 of THE SINNER is an eight-episode limited series that follows Cora Tannetti, a young mother and unassuming housewife who, when overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage, commits a startling act of violence and to her horror has no idea why. After she violently stabs a beachgoer to death, the event sparks an investigation by local police and causes sudden confusion in a small town. The driving force for this crime thriller is not the "who" or the "what" -- but the "why" -- as Det. Harry Ambrose finds himself obsessed with uncovering the woman's buried motive. Together they travel a harrowing journey into the depths of her psyche and the violent secrets hidden in her past.

Executive produced by Jessica Biel, Season 2 of THE SINNER premiered on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT on USA Network. The new story follows Detective Harry Ambrose who returns to his hometown in rural New York to assess an unsettling and heart wrenching crime -- parents murdered by their 11-year-old son, with no apparent motive. As Ambrose realizes there's nothing ordinary about the boy or where he came from, the investigation pulls him into the hidden darkness of his hometown. He's pitted against those who'll stop at nothing to protect its secrets -- and the mysterious Vera who proves to be a complicated, enigmatic piece to this haunting puzzle.

THE SINNER returned for its third installment, which follows Detective Harry Ambrose as he begins a routine investigation of a tragic yet suspicious car accident on the outskirts of Dorchester, in upstate New York. Ambrose uncovers a hidden crime that pulls him into the most dangerous and disturbing case of his career. Executive produced by Jessica Biel, Season 3 of THE SINNER premiered on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 9pm ET/PT on USA Network.

The eight-episode fourth and final season of THE SINNER premiered on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 10pm ET/PT on USA Network. Still reeling from the trauma of a previous case a year ago, the now-retired Harry Ambrose travels to Hanover Island in northern Maine for a recuperative getaway with his partner, Sonya. When an unexpected tragedy occurs involving the daughter of a prominent island family, Ambrose is recruited to help the investigation, only to be thrown into a mystery of mounting paranoia that will turn this sleepy tourist island, and Ambrose's life, upside down.
