Plot Synopsis

Created by Denis Leary, SEX&DRUGS&ROCK&ROLL centers on Johnny Rock, lead singer of a legendary early '90s New York band called The Heathens, who were on the brink of becoming famous for their kickass live shows. Johnny was on his way to the cover of "Rolling Stone" magazine. His best friend, Flash, was being called the next number one lead guitar player on planet earth. They were going to be huge -- until they broke up. The same day their first and only album dropped. Because lead guitarist Flash found Johnny in bed with his wife. So the band became legendary for all the wrong reasons -- like self-destructing sooner than any group in rock-n-roll history. Twenty five years later, the only thing bigger than Johnny's ego is his prostate. He's out of work, out of money and out of show business options. That's when a talented young singer named Gigi shows up with a burning desire to be famous, a throwback appreciation for The Heathens' only album, and a stack of cash big enough to bring the whole band back into the studio. Only this time, she's the lead singer and Johnny's just a behind-the-scenes songwriter. In the Season 1 finale, "Because We're Legion," Greg Dulli sets Gigi up with a well-respected producer from the west coast, which Johnny loves because Flash doesn't. Season 2 of SEX&DRUGS&ROCK&ROLL premiered on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT on FX. Just as Gigi and The Assassins start to gain traction, their dysfunctional rock-and-roll family begins to implode. After the sudden passing of an old friend and former bandmate, the group is forced to take a hard look at their lives and careers. Ava, in particular, struggles with a midlife crisis as she questions her backup role. With advice from Gigi and support from Flash, she's ready to take a step into the spotlight. Johnny does everything he can to get back into the spotlight, while realizing that he may lose Ava should she find success with her new project. Meanwhile, Gigi comes to a realization of her own -- that she should experience everything and anything while she's still young. Flash plays support for both Ava and Gigi, while he contemplates taking his relationship with Gigi to the next level. Rehab is approached by a respected Irish actor who wants to take advantage of the recent success of "Hamilton" by buying the rights to Rehab's song cycle about the Irish Potato Famine and turning it into an elaborate off-Broadway Hip-Hop production. When Bam Bam gets involved and heavily attached, he and Rehab begin to clash over creative control. All of this comes to a head as a secret from the rock band's past comes back to bite them in the ass.
