Plot Synopsis

RIVERS OF LIFE is a one-hour documentary series that highlights extraordinary animals, epic landscapes, and remarkable people who live alongside iconic rivers. Season 1 features these three iconic rivers: the Amazon, the Nile and the Mississippi. Episodes include:

"The Nile" (Wednesday, June 19, 2019 @ 8pm): The Nile is the world's longest river. From elephants and leopards to extreme kayakers and ancient wonders, its great length provides a lifeline for Africa's wildest beasts and for some of the world's most incredible cultures.

"The Amazon" (Wednesday, June 26, 2019 @ 8pm): The Amazon, the greatest river system on Earth, amasses one-fifth of Earth's freshwater as it flows east from the Andes to the Atlantic. Boiling streams, crystal clear lagoons, pink river dolphins and a strange new reef are some of its many secret and extreme worlds.

"The Mississippi" (Wednesday, July 3, 2019 @ 8pm): See the many faces of the massive, muddy Mississippi. Its fingers stretch into nearly half of the USA, from the frozen north to the nation's agricultural heart to mysterious southern swamps where alligators still rule.

Season 2 of RIVERS OF LIFE premiered on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 8pm on PBS (check local listings). The second season of this series explores Africa's wildest river, the Zambezi; Europe's Danube River, which travels through more countries than any other river; and North America's great frozen river, the Yukon. Journey from source to mouth and travel through awe-inspiring landscapes to discover the spectacular wildlife and fascinating people that thrive along three of Earth's greatest rivers. The three episodes in the new season are:

"Zambezi" (Wednesday, September 28, 2022 @ 8pm): From surfers riding mysterious waves in deep gorges, to elephants battling rapids above Victoria falls, the largest curtain of water on earth. This is the story of the wildlife and people of the Zambezi, Africa's extraordinary shape-shifting river.

"Danube" (Wednesday, October 5, 2022 @ 8pm): Europe's mighty and majestic Danube, full of glorious riches and magical surprises, is the world's most international river. See how its epic journey is like no other -- featuring stunning secret tributaries, baby turtles, and a waterfall-riding kayaker.

"Yukon" (Wednesday, October 12, 2022 @ 8pm): Remote and wild, the Yukon is a river of extremes. In summer, a restless giant and in winter, it becomes a river of ice. Home to bears, moose and salmon, the Yukon's riches have sustained North American people for centuries.
