Plot Synopsis

RISE is a documentary series that travels to Indigenous communities across the Americas to meet people protecting their homelands and rising up against colonization. The first two of eight episodes chronicle the never-before-seen seeds of the historic Standing Rock Sioux protest of the Dakota Access Pipeline and the still-developing aftermath now that the cameras and celebrities have left. In this two-part story, filmmaker Michelle Latimer and host Sarain Fox -- both Indigenous women themselves -- delve into the Indigenous resistance movement in North America to examine the social and political factors that threaten their liberation in the 21st century.
